Either way, I don’t think Neah can avoid the eating other people allegations either. I think he did whatever mana did to him to the other Noah. He mentioned to tyki after tyki offered to take him to a family dinner that he’d “spit the food he chewed out” (or something like that) which triggered Joyd something bad. Considering what we know now, that phrase takes on a whole new context, especially since we know Neah was trying to become the earl. Consuming the other Noah may have been a vehicle for that. Plus I’m pretty sure it was mentioned somewhere(?) that it took the Noah an extra long time to reincarnate post Neah’s murder spree because their deaths were so violent. Being eaten outta do the trick!

Sometimes I think about Allen’s habit of making terrible horrible deals with the devil, not asking any of the terms… but also they always come at very vulnerable times.

the first time, he’s dying and all of his comrades have been wiped out. The second, the only person in the world he loves and who loved him has just died (and he’s like 10, max). The third time, he’s just found out that his whole life’s a lie and he’s probably a construct—though to be fair, he was kind of given the terms on that one.

but I guess that is sometimes a characteristic of deals with the devil is that they come when desperate

I might make a more in depth post about this later, but there’s something about Allen and Mana’s ways of grieving that stick out to me. They’re so similar, but I think there’s one key difference:

Mana forgets, Allen doesn’t.

When confronted with guilt over hurting a loved one (regardless of circumstances) and the grief of losing them, Mana couldn’t stand to look at himself to the point he literally changed his own face. He spent years searching for the very brother he killed. He hated himself so much he became someone else (Adam). It wasn’t it his fault (Adam’s), it was his fault (Mana’s)

Allen is similar, but ends up swinging in the opposite direction. When he’s at his lowest, he couldn’t cope with it either, becoming catatonic (is that the right word?). After he comes out of that state, it’s because he needs to keep a promise that he (Allen) made to Mana. And like Mana he’s acting like a different person! But he’s still Allen and he carries the guilt of turning Mana into an Akuma directly. He can’t change his face. Everything about his appearance is a constant reminder. It was his fault, and he’s going to spend everyday atoning for it.

the thing about d gray man is like... the grief. the tragedy of it all. just all the horrors the world have to offer. and the characters are like "i remain silly :3". and then they go through horrors. and ngl remaining silly seems harder everytime. they try but God is cruel and fate is the enemy you can never fully outrun.

and there is such a difference between early dgm and late dgm. You can get fooled into hoping early on, to buy into the black and white war they offer you. And then you realize God genuinely hates you. You are nothing but a pawn in what is a war bigger than you. What you want, what you hope for, it means nothing.

And the Devil may not be as hateful as you expect. maybe the Devil is your family. The family you don't even know you had. The family you spent your life grieving. It took everything away from you. It's the only place that would still love you. God doesn't care for you as it wraps you in His arms. The Devil loves you so much it would eat you alive.

You're wanted by every side of the war and none of them want you for You. You're no one. you're everyone. You're just a vessel waiting to be filled with whatever would weight the balance of the war. You're none of these things. You're all of these things. They'll erase everything else.

There are people who care for you. You rewrite their entire faith. you free them from the horrors God had put them through. So they embrace the horrors in the hope of saving You. Everyone you save, you condemn. Everyone you love, love you back so much so they'll damn themselves. And damn you in the process.

What a tragedy to be loved. What a tragedy it is to love. What a tragedy it is that it's worth it either way.

God and the Devil want You. But not "You". Who Are You?
