🐶✝️🐱 oh joy! I'm limbering up to do the silliest thing, a Ren & Stimpy/Justice comic for an upcoming zine (I'm having too much fun doing these things, accept it) so I thought I'd plunge right in the deep end immediately and draw a Tender Scene. The nature of the comic itself will be far different from this though, it will be a tale of woe indeed! There will be pain! Betrayal! Tears! A lesson learned? Doubtful.

The second pic here was my first attempt at this idea back in April, and I had an idea for the comic at the time but not the vehicle for it. As you can see I've gotten better at drawing them, or at least their designs are somewhat improved ^^ for instance, I want to ape the R&S designs and style but still have my flavour, so I added a curved line to the Stimpy nose to just make the design a touch more feline than the original. Just a smidge!

My tar vase came outta the kiln!

I was so scared it would explode or the "drips" would break etc but it came out perfectly Phew. sadly my studio does NOT have a glossy black glaze like my old class so we settled for a satin matte black instead. It was lovely though, it smoothed out all the rough finishing i had (i'm sloppy lol) If you like this vase, you might like my spikey vase/jug too! (everyone says it looks like ferrofluid :') )

Girls Girls Girls!! (Ft a werewolf girl)

This was one of my favourite drawings I did for the Adventure Time tarot guidebook, for reasons of it being Very Cute.

I wanted every character/card to have their own lil doodles in the book, but some doodles I loved so much, they were lucky enough to be inked and coloured.

It also seems relevant to post on Valentine's Day, which was yesterday, but Oh Well.

Last summer I got covid (again) and as I was basically bedridden for a few days, my boyfriend suggested a start an audiobook, and that apparently the lord of the rings one was good. So, I listened.

I first read Lotr when i was 8, and often until i was about 13. I wrote more about it in my last lotr post, but one of the main things I noticed in the audiobook (that i missed as a kid) was just how intimately and physically romantic the relationship between Frodo and Sam is. As their journey continues they cradle each other to sleep and kiss each other out of pure affection. Of course, their language is full of adoration for each other too.

I assume that Tolkien didn't intend for them to share more than platonic love, but certainly he intended that they have a bond far deeper than friendship or camaraderie. I don't know enough about Tolkien's life to speculate, but I suspect it's got something to do fighting in WWI.

RE: the lil comic pic, it was about the following lines when Frodo has healed from the Ringwraith-inflicted sword wound, long before he and Sam's private quest in Emyn Muil and beyond; “At that moment there was a knock on the door, and Sam came in. He ran to Frodo and took his left hand, awkwardly and shyly. He stroked it gently and then he blushed and turned hastily away.”

Drawing these, I tried to remember how I imagined the characters from back when i was a kiddo, when I thought of the hobbits as more pixie-like and less like actual adult men.

(i also wrote a little script for a sort-of comic about Frodo, Sam and Rosie. Maybe one day I'll get round to doing something with it).
