i think my favorite thing about the hitman series is that from the outside it looks like a very serious game that takes itself very seriously, but occasionally takes a few dignified pot-shots at itself (silly challenges and the like).
once you play it for a while you see that it suffers from some of the more common silly consequences of being a video game, like how hitting someone across the back of the head with a wrench is not lethal, and the ever-present myth that people can be knocked out for a long time with no repercussions.
but if you play long enough you get to find out that it's actually an incredibly silly game that likes to dress up in a suit. the briefing on this mission i just started literally said one of the targets is inventing "super-cocaine" and has to be stopped.

do you ever start writing a comment on the internet and then think “oh what the fuck am i going on about” and delete it
#so many people have been spared so much ridiculous wank from me#just because my process of writing and editing posts i actually commit#even reblogs#takes so long that i realize it's wank before i can ever hit send#probably one of the only good side effects of being a written-word perfectionist#i don't police the tags as much#this is probably wank#but oops! hitting reblog now!

some part of my brain, recognizing that i am grotesquely sweaty, desperately thinking of ways to cool off that i'm not already doing: it's probably the hair tie, it's way too hot, get rid of that next.

PSA to any followers who, like me, might have missed out on the Hitman franchise because they were too young and/or not interested in the genre when it first got off the ground but are now old enough and/or interested enough in strategic stealth games: Hitman World of Assassination presently has a sale for only $28 right now (normally $70) and it is a lot of video game. I've logged 16 hours into it so far and I'm barely scratching the surface of all the stories/playmodes available so far. The sale ends Aug 14, and honestly even as much as I like the game so far, I'm not sure I'd pay that much for it. basically if it sounds appealing you need to snap it up now.
it's one of those skeezy structures where the base game doesn't actually have anything and you have to buy DLC to get access to actual content. i think this lets them get around having to do refunds even for 90 day/90 hour accounts. If you're not sure your rig can handle it, try to find out before you commit. that said, my computer honestly sucks a lot of butt, so I think it'll run on most any setup.

sometimes, the answer to the question "why does my graphics card fail so much on not very impressive games?" is "because all of its void spaces are filled with dust."

so i recently transferred to a different store because i needed to move in with my sister, and i thought it was just really good luck that the first and closest store i called about a transfer was able to put me in a full time position. turns out it was because this store is this district's hell hole, where an old guard manager has been squeezing labor to pad his quarterly bonuses, and the shit finally hit the fan not long after i transferred.
anyway, new bosses are in and they actually want to do things the correct way. myself and a few people that have worked in other stores are happy about this, because it means standards are actually going to be at one particular place and not change based on someone's whim day-to-day. the downside is those standards are in fact way higher than they have been, and all of the people that have only worked in this store really hate that. probably because they're used to shit staffing, but based on the number of interviews today i think that's changing, too.
anyway the whole reason i'm writing this post is a conversation i had with one of the people that's only worked this store and is mad about all the "extra" stuff we have to do now. myself and one other person were explaining step by step what the actual benefit is for the new things until I got tired of talking about work at lunch and said "listen man, at a certain point you have to just do what your boss is paying you for." and i will admit that in dubious and questionably legal circumstances, that is in fact bad advice, but there's nothing dubious or questionably legal about our circumstances here.
but this guy. he starts trying to lecture me about how you can't just do what your boss says, you have to think for yourself because that's how they get you to do bad things. and i was just like, my dude; broseph: which manager has asked you to commit a war crime, please tell me their name. this man is worried about suffering his own personal nuremberg trials because he's being asked to verify all bills above a certain denomination, and i just can't with this. he's ex-military!
#personal work yapping under the cut#not super negative#and a little bit funny#and also longer than i thought it'd be

well, i finally got out and used the buses here. i didn't have a goal other than to get to a specific destination and back, so that i could have time to make mistakes borne of ignorance. which was a great idea, because i definitely lost an hour just from wandering in a direction i thought would be productive, but was actually wrong. looking forward to next week when i'll have the money to actually do and see things, too.

fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, and indeed, i think i was finally ready for an episode of takopi's original sin on the third episode. perhaps that's because nothing quite as shocking happened, but there was still some fucked up shit that i managed to get through without feeling like my guts were twisting. i'd like to attribute that to being ready for it this time, so i will.
i can't see this anime ending any way except 1) every one dies or 2) everyone goes to jail.

The Dungeons & Dragons paladin is objectively the funniest class because at first glance it seems like an artefact of an earlier age of the fantasy genre for which contemporary inspirations are thin on the ground, but then you dig into its thematic core and realise there are contemporary popular media characters who almost perfectly fit the mould, but like 80% of them are deeply unwell teenage lesbians.
#and then brandon sanderson said#here's a 5-book series filled with nothing but paladins#i'd say 5 more are on the way#but idrk how the paladin thing is gonna keep going in the wake of... well... Events...
