When Chloe turned around she saw a man quickly walk towards her mother and give her a hug. It stung to see her arms around the man. She did have some warmth in her heart then, just not for her.
‘Who is that?’ Went through her mind, but she didn’t have the capacity to think about it. Her head was all fuzzy. It was better she just turned away.

Chloe mustered the last of her energy to try and reason with the woman one last time. “Why are you like this?” She asked, afraid to hear the answer.
The woman shook her head and avoided her eyes. It probably hurt too much to look, at least, that is what Chloe made of it.
“I gave you away for a reason. You are not welcome here. Now leave me before my family sees you. Or I will call the cops.”
Chloe had no more fight left at that point. For her biological mother to threaten to call the cops on her was the final blow. She didn’t even want to linger any longer. She wanted to forget this moment.
“Alright.” She said in a small voice. They looked at one another for a beat but the woman’s eyes stayed cold. Soon after, she turned around and left.

“Don’t you dare ever turn up on this doorstep again. Now leave, before anyone sees you.”

Her mother seemed to be seething with anger. Chloe felt her stomach dropping, and tears welling in her eyes. She tried her best to keep them down. She didn’t want to cry in front of her.
“I don’t know who you think you are to come in here and make up those kinds of things. I never had a daughter. That’s the end of it.”
Pure shock was all that Chloe felt. Her mother denied her entire existence. Was she that ashamed of her? Chloe didn’t know how to respond. She could only stammer.
“But I- I… I’m”

The door opened and revealed a grey-haired woman Chloe instantly knew had to be her mother. Those familiar brown eyes she always saw in the mirror, now reflected in the eyes of the woman standing in front of her. The woman stared at her, clearly uncomfortable with the intensity of Chloe’s stare and the silence that ensued. It was clear the woman was growing impatient as she spoke.
“Hello? Who are you?”

The words snapped Chloe out of it and the reality of the situation sinked in. She was about to introduce herself to her mother. With a shaky voice she replied; “Chloe. I don’t know how to say this, so I’m just going to come out with it.” The woman in front of her raised her eyebrows but waited patiently, “I’m your daughter. I was adopted.”

The face of the woman fell. She went through a whole range of emotions. First, surprise. Then, to Chloe’s dismay, a mixture of anger and frustration.

“How dare you.”

What Chloe didn't realize was that someone important was watching the whole thing unfold from a distance.

As Chloe approached the house she was a little taken aback to know just how big it looked. It was different from what she expected- a modest house in a small neighborhood. That was how she always imagined it: two people that entrusted her to another because they didn't have the money to give her a good chance at life. But what she observed now told otherwise. There had to be another, better reason.
The closer she got to the suburban she started to question her choices more and more. Her stomach was twisting and turning, her palms sweaty and her hands shaking. But there was no going back now.
She pressed the doorbell and waited.

“Mom, dad. I’m sorry it has taken so long. Too long. A lot has happened since I last came here. I have finally found them. The people that put me up for adoption.”
Chloe swallows, stopping her eyes from watering. She always cries, even now, two years after the accident.
“They might not want to see me. But they are the only family I’ve got left.” Chloe brushes away a tear that slowly falls from her cheek. “I miss you both so much. Honestly, I’m so anxious they don’t want to see me; just like you warned me.”
Chloe gathers her breath, in an attempt to satiate the nerves building in her stomach.
“But what if they do? I have to try. I hope you understand. Don’t worry too much about me, okay?”

Some graphics I made for the Not So Berry Challenge created by @lilsimsie and @alwaysimming! I love the challenge and wanted to pay tribute to it. I used icons created by TheSimKid on Mod The Sims. ~ Enjoy !
