As the founder of the Pearl of Africa Fashion Alliance (PAFA), I’ve seen firsthand how critical it is for designers, photographers, models, stylists, accessory makers, cosmetics brands, and other creatives to understand and leverage intellectual property (IP) to safeguard their work and scale globally.

In this article, I explore why IP is essential for Uganda's emerging fashion sector, the real-world global IP case studies (Chanel, Nike, Louboutin & more), how creatives across fashion sub-sectors can protect their innovations, and our upcoming PAFA x URSB IP workshop this June, tailored for fashion entrepreneurs and enthusiasts.

Honored to be part of the Uganda Parliamentary Forum for Creative Industries (UGAPAFOCI) Capacity-Building Workshop on the Draft Uganda National Cultural Policy Gap Analysis at the Hilton Hotel today.

Representing the Pearl of Africa Fashion Alliance (PAFA), I had the opportunity to engage with key stakeholders on strengthening Uganda’s creative industries, particularly the fashion sector. Discussions like these are crucial in shaping policies that empower our local talent and drive economic growth through culture and creativity.

After adjudicating the Mr. Ideal Uganda competitions successfully in July 2016, I went on to sign in Usher Shubu, who had emerged as the victor of the first ever male pageant in this part of Africa.

Manuela Usher Shubu @shubufitness set off on his quest without looking back, setting records as one of the few male models to have crafted and changed the lives of numerous individuals with his full-body Bomber fitness Initiative.

People of all ages, including the elderly and the young, are now featured on the regular program.

Usher serves as a perfect illustration of what I often remind the individuals I manage: Consistency is the fruit of the tree of success. You will become better at something and feel more fulfilled if you consistently perform it well and with a purpose in mind.

He continues to hold his position as one of Africa's top certified fitness trainers in Africa. It’s always nice having you around Usher. Shubu
