NTMI (chapter 6)
I have decided to change my case study as I am struggling to find the required research to complete the assignment, my case studys were Jerry Cantrell and Damon Albarn my new case study are going to be Bob Dylan and Ed Sheeran.
this is my feedback from the formative hand in.
Well done for submitting your first formative assignment of the study block From what I can see (access was very limited to the Tumblr page) you have made comparisons between two relevant artists in Damon, Alban and Layne Staley. You have some interesting ideas and comparisons between the two, personality, traits, and recording releases. I like the way you have included materials that you have research from YouTube, you have also managed to reference correctly in the bibliography style. From hereon, I would suggest re-read the brief and analyse these two artists in terms of the order of what you’re being asked in the formative assignment (points 1-8) and structure the work in this way, it’s difficult to pick out the specifics of what you’ve been asked to provide as your work is a little sporadic in it's narrative. Try to lay it out exactly as the formative asks you to, and look forward to the final submission, as you will be asked to put in a reflection on yourself, and your own career based on what you’ve learned. you have put in some strengths and weaknesses of your own, and this is relevant (or will be) towards the end of the work. Everything you have done here is valuable. We just need to put it in the correct structure according to what you’ve been asked to do. As a footnote, I would suggest an alternative submission point as tumblr only allowed me limited access in time and then asked me to open an account. This is not something that an academic examiner would be expected to do. I suggest that you submit your work, perhaps on a Padlet that we can access, or a PDF With YouTube videos as appendices.

Today's long form discussion is all about BUSINESS. When does a band become a business? What affect does that have on the music, or they way you operate as an artist. What do you even do? Well, today's podcast is all about that. Alongside my producer Jenny May Finn,I talk about my experience as a band that also requires to be a business. Let me know what you think of it, or if you have any questions.

NTMI (chapter 4)
1. Thinking about your past or present case study artists, do some research and make a list of their strengths and weaknesses. What did they do well? In what areas did they struggle?
Layne Stanley struggled with fame and addiction throughout his career,After the death of his girlfriend and former fiance, Demri Parrott, in October 1996, Staley was said to have basically given up in his battle with drug addiction. This, however, did not stop him from working with Mad Season and recording vocals for "Another Brick in the Wall" for the soundtrack to The Faculty (1998).
youtube
His strengths were his vocal performance and his captivating stage presence which allowed the listener to view deep into his soul with haunting performances like the MTV unplugged performance. He also seemed to excel in collaborating which led him to create the grunge super group Mad Season.

Damon Albarn also struggled with addiction in his career and believed he was not taken seriously because of this.
Damon Albarns strengths were his collaborative nature and his ability to prolifically write songs in a range of different styles to suit a plethora of different artist involved in the making of Gorillaz and Pulp.

2. Next, take stock of what you excel at, and an area you may need to work on. Write down a list of your strengths and weaknesses, further defining how that specifically connects to different members of a typical music industry team.
My strengths:
. Creative writing and lyrics
. Composition
. Collaboration
. Organising people and working deadlines
My weakness:
. Stage presence
. Music theory
. Music industry knowledge
. Self criticism
I believe my strengths connect to publishers and other artists and can be very useful in the creation of materiel and getting the task done and finished.
I believe my weakness connect to artist development, technical development and people knowledgable about the music industry like A and R and artist management.

A manager is looking for me to be actively trying to progress in my career independently swell as doing all the thing that is expected of me as an artist.
How can I develop a relationship with my Manager?
I can develop a good working relationship with my manager by working out and establishing what it we expect from each other at an early stage and keeping to what was agreed.
How can I set boundaries and define expectations for my team?
I can set boundaries in my team by letting them what is and isn't acceptable at an early for example alcohol and drugs on the job is not acceptable and professionalism is expected at all times as everyone that is part of the team is the face of the team one person playing causes the whole team to look bad.

NTMI (chapter 1)
Compare the challenges artists face today in the Modern industry and the challenge they faced in the past.
Artists and bands in the past were contending for attention from AnR teams in the hope that they would get signed by big labels, these artists did not have the infrastructure that the labels had to record, press vinyl and distribute. Where as currently artists now have the Internet and modern technology to record, promote and distribute independently, the problem they find is that they have to traverse a swamp of other creators doing the same thing, these artists can only succeed in the modern industry by seeing opportunities as they arise, by timing releases appropriately and by promoting strategically.
