the bizarre thing is that whenever a celebrity or generally a large public figure does kill themselves, there’s always a big conversation online about “this is a reminder that just because you have it all, doesn’t mean you can’t be depressed :( we don’t know what ppl are going thru behind the scenes”.. it happened with kate spade, robin williams, anthony bourdain and so on. and we all understood that and empathized with these peoples’ struggles

but when somebody like taylor swift comes forward through her work and expresses thoughts of suicidal ideation or weaves motifs relating to mental illness in her art, people online go “hmm. i don’t believe you have the right to be doing this. you haven’t proven to me personally that you can be doing this” and it’s very insidious.
