high concept sci-fi aus
basically, these are long-form plots, requiring us not to just plot before-hand, but continuously plot as we develop ideas about the world and the characters.
timeloop au.Ā Ā the characters are stuck together in a time loop and must figure their way out.Ā Ā the loop lasts one day, or until they die (requiring both of them to die for the loop to reset).Ā Ā the idea is, the characters are forced to repeat the same events over and over again and figure their way out, and in the meantime, they grow closer, discover secrets about each other and get into hijinks (of course they will blow an entire week of loops off);
generational ship ( accidental ).Ā Ā iām just really obsessed with the idea sometimes presented in trek shows of ships being forced to become colony ships to survive.Ā Ā christine surrounded by little kiddos, head nurse, trying to keep her head above water as more and more people are born, trying to figure out what she is going to do now that her entire future has been erased and she is stuck in the ship forever;
missing memory / kidnapped.Ā Ā (think voyager ep where they become workers and also stargate ep where they become workers)Ā āĀ Ā being kidnapped by an alien organization which wipes your memory and makes you work on their behalf, the memories slowly slipping backĀ (Ā Ā the further the relationship developed between the two muses is from their normal relationship the betterĀ Ā );Ā and
crash.Ā Ā shuttle crash on a planet, having to build a shelter, figure out food, water, how to communicate with the ship and go home.Ā Ā there is something about being isolated, lost and hanging by your last shred of hope which really entices meĀ Ā ( alt.Ā Ā they are forced to relocate to a planet as they both come down with a disease which doesnāt affect them but affects everyone else).

the west wing, seventeen people, sentence starter meme.
[Name] is an egomaniac who needs to be told what people think of him.
Itās never happened before, right?
How much time do you have?
Yeah, thanks to who?
I think you got to see this as an opportunityā¦
I donāt know! Shock. Betrayal. Confusion. Concern about our future.
What do I tell him?
Did you get the flowers?
Iām the sort of guy who remembers those things.
No, youāre the sort of guy who sends a woman flowers to be mean. Youāre really the only person Iāve ever met who can do that.
Iām quite something.Ā
Are we really going to do this every year?
Oh, shut up! Honest to God, do you ever get tired of the sound of your own voice?
Hey, we need funny people.
See, right there was a joke. Itās the oldest joke in the bookā¦
Really? āCause what I think I was trying to say was āShove it!ā
Okay, well, then I guessed wrong.
You know, there are times, when to put it quite simply, I hate your breathing guts.
So the flowers really did the trick, huh?
Didnāt you hear me shouting?
I chose to ignore it.
Youāre adorable.
Yet ill-adored.
Ā Youāre not, youāre not, youāre not one of those people!
And get some decent pizza, yeah.
Theyāre gonna hate you.
Do you wanna help me or not?
I know some of you are troubled by my frequent use of Latin references. Well, all I canĀ say is 'no te preocupusā.
Our not anniversary.
Nobody lied? Is that what youāve been saying to yourself over and over againā¦
Nobody⦠Listen to me. Nobody lied. Nobody was asked to lie.
Well, I think itās pretty funny butā¦.
Iām a low maintenance lady.Ā
You know your indignation would be a lot more interesting to me if it werenāt quite so covered in crap!Ā
Prince of passive-aggressive behavior.
What does āsnarkā mean?
The all-night pastry chef? You were just kidding about that, right?
Except you donāt know how to use a computer.
Hey, Iām just grateful we were your last choice.
Iām gonna give you a little gift right now, which you donāt deserve.
Okay, what I need is for you to stop being like, you, for a second.
Youāre gonna make fun of him now, arenāt you?
āCause thatās why I didnāt tell you in the first place.
Does this make you feel superior?
Yes, you are better than my old boyfriend.
Iām just sayinā if you were in an accident, I wouldnāt stop for a beer.
If you were in an accident, I wouldnāt stop for red lights. Thanks for taking me back.

Pressing two fingers to her lips, Christine chokes back a laugh when his back is turned.Ā Ā Ā Ā She supposes she could just flirt back, itās not like she never considered it:Ā Ā Ā he is cute, in a square-jawed, terrifyingly pretty sort of way, and he looks like heād be a good kisser.Ā Ā Ā
When he comes back, she looks at him with dancing eyes, even if the curve of her smile has turned slightly apologetic.Ā Ā Ā Not uninterested, or regretful, just cautious. Ā Ā Ā ā Ā Ā You know, when I flirt, I usually try to be more subtle than that... Ā Ā actually, scratch that, thatās exactly how I sound when I flirt. Ā Ā I really did just mean I have a lot of sunflowers in my room, Ā Ā ā Ā Ā she says, stretching out a hand to grab one of the plates, fingers brushing against his quickly.
Ā ā Ā Ā But good to know. Ā Ā ā Ā Ā Ā Now, finally, she laughs.Ā Ā Ā At herself, at him, and just for the sake of laughter, bright and warm. Ā Ā ā Ā Ā Ā Guess your connections as captain canāt break the rules of leafy greens.Ā Ā Ā Itās perfect, thank you. Ā Ā ā Ā Ā
He absolutely shouldnāt open his mouth. He should let the comment sail on by and navigate the conversation to safer waters. But Jim is often impulsive, guided by desires and wants, and itās just so obvious. āOh? I believe weāll have to remedy that.ā
The timer goes off and Jim excuses himself; heās more sure if the timing is comedic or if heās grateful for the easy retreat. Thereās a hint of blush dusting his cheeks. Heās a flirt, itās as natural as breathing for him, but that doesnāt stave off the embarrassment of doing it so poorly and plainly as he has.
He returns with two plates and prays that this will be something they can both laugh at soon. āSorry to disappoint, but the salad is replicator made.ā Even he canāt work a miracle like that, fresh greens and croutons on short notice.

ā Ā Ā Ā Making sure that people donāt get lost is important work.Ā Ā Ā ā Ā Ā Ā It wasnāt unusual for a tour to be added to her schedule; Ā Ā Ā she might not know the Enterprise as well as other officers who have lived here for years, but what she lacks in tactical knowledge, she more than makes up in knowing what people really need to hear.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā Ā Ā Ā Itās not so bad, I get to stretch my legs. Ā Ā How did you end up here, anyway? Ā Promotion? Ā Demotion? Ā Ā Ā ā Ā Ā
Starfleet surprised her with the ⦠misplaced or perhaps naive kindness everyone brought to the table any given day. They truly seemed to believe what they were doing was for the best and, more shockingly, that it could genuinely WORK. It was almost saddening to see so many humans caught up in this false belief. ā Yeah, no, that would probably be really embarrassing, for I mean, the wandering around. You probably got important work to do I doubt the captain would be mad at you. He shouldnāt be. ā False naivety ⦠that she could do. ā But if you insist ⦠ā

Eyes swoop upwards away from the board, narrowing at Uhuraās smile.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā Ā Ā Ā If this was monopoly, youād be begging for mercy. Ā Ā Ā ā Ā Ā Ā Good-natured grumble escapes through twitching lips, a smile threatening to destroy the mock-seriousness she was going for.
ā Ā Ā Ā Come on, letās go for another round.Ā Ā Ā No easy-rules, no taking it easy, Iām going to beat you this time and itās going to be good.Ā Ā Ā ā
@nurscāā asked ā Why canāt I beat you at this game? ā (to uhura!)
āIāll never tell you my secrets,ā Uhura laughed as she carefully picked the seeds out of the holes, slightly triumphantly. Sheād played Bao ever since she was a child, loved the intricacies of it. Warm memories were conjured of her playing with her mother. She always beat her at it, too.Ā āMaybe itās too complicated for you and we should playĀ Bao la kujifunza instead. Itās a simpler version. Maybe youāll get the hang of it then.ā

Christine is far too much like the sun which runs through her veins;Ā Ā Ā it never considers whether it should shine or not, it just does:Ā Ā Ā it burns bright in the sky every single day, unrepetant.Ā Ā Ā Ā And, inside her mind there are no cloudy-days to offer her respite or tampen down the desire to do something. Ā Ā Ā Ā
ā Ā Ā Ā You do help, Ā Ā ā Ā Ā she deflects, shaking her head. Ā Ā It was harder to play stupid and self-sacrificial when there was someone out there who knew what she was doing, but she knows thatās not what he means.Ā Ā Ā Ā ā Ā Ā Ā You remind me often and with a lot of certainty that I can still die. Ā Ā It keeps my ego in check, you know? Ā Ā ā Ā
She justified it to herself that these powers were given to her so she could help others.Ā Ā Ā Not for her to get a dorky professor in trouble.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā He does not sigh ā perhaps, by fault of his own pride ā but Spock does purse his lips, whole expression pinching in thought. There is something to be said about great power, literally or figuratively, and all the things that should, supposedly, come with it. Spock wonāt speak to those things, or say them now. Instead, he thinks of what heās supposed to do with it. It is not his ā itās never been his ā he is only human. And objectively average at that. Still ā he wonders ā does awareness alone constitute a higher obligation to responsibility?
He breathes out, ā Let me help. ā

Christine offered a small shrug, her explanation only making slightly more sense than her previous words. ā Ā Ā You see, I'm amused now. So, I'm in a forgiving, unbothered mood. Tomorrow... Tomorrow I might wake up and think about this before I have my cup of coffee, and that's when it is going to bother me.Ā Ā ā Ā
It is probably a good thing she is on an exploration ship, then. Diplomats are few and far in-between, as she'd probably get in a lot of trouble with them. It is not that she lies, but just that sometimes, for the sake of talking, she says things she doesn't mean. Some people collect coins, and some people talk.
ā Ā Ā Dangerous with candids and words, I'll jot that down.Ā Ā ā Ā
ā later, but not now? ā sheās not sure she dares ask about that particular logic, and reminds herself ( not for the first time ) that not everything makes, or needs to make, sense. ā I will warn you now: using your own words against you is one of the favourite games of us diplomats. ā by definition of their job, they spent conversations noticing, storing away tidbits of information that will prove useful to them later. in doing so, they might catch hypocrisy, anticipate that which the parties involved wish to keep close to their chest, and find the ways to ensure that all parties yielded to the proposed agreements, sooner or later.
it is not a skill elizabeth knows how to turn off.
ā fortunately, Iām less prone to using starfleet photos against people. I will make no promises about candid photos, but as those are not part of your file, you are safe there. ā
