Wanted to do something like this before the end of Pride Month, and I like seeing these two together; whether it's as really good friends or something more.

I don't usually delve overtly into romance on this blog, but I hope we can make an exception for the occasion.

Could you to Willow? She's my fav and I can't believe she's not on the list!

Of course! Here's my willow redesign:

Willow's was a redesign I was super excited to do, mostly because I had a lot of ideas surrounding how I could change her appearance to better suit her name and personality! I did like willow's canon design, but I always thought it was a little bit bland compared to some of the other leafwings and wanted to right that wrong.

The most obvious changes I made were to Willow's body shape and webs - when making this design, I wanted to go for a gentle-giant look (and yes I am imagining Willow as 4x bigger than Sundew,) mimicking the height and size of a willow tree by giving her a more graceful/smooth body shape that bends like the tree's branches. In order to fully accomplish this Willow-look, I also made her spine webs much longer and droopier - kind of like a horse's mane. The finishing touch to this transformation was adding long willow branch patterns on her web membrane. The end result is still more subtle than I would've liked, but the alternative (giving her willow branches that looked like hair) made Willow look like she was from a totally different tribe. RIP.

I kept her colors slightly the same, using light fern greens for her scales and wing patterns but adding darker tones for her wing/webs/horns. The pattern itself is very fluid, with swirls and small leaf-veins on her legs and stomach. I think this might just be the least jagged pattern I've ever used on a redesign, since most of my works will have at least some element of sharpness in the pattern! While I am slightly worried that this doesn't look like Willow anymore, I guess my redesign wouldn't be very good if she came out looking exactly how she went in.

do you have a design for whiteout? ive always been fascinated by her description in the books and id be so curious to see how you interpret it!

Whiteout has been requested SO many times, and I'm really glad I can finally deliver! @miscellaneous-dragon-art , @thegreatnature , @aldershadows , @fluffyjesterr , @sunnyfield , @oli-bird , @rhynee and a handful of other anons all requested to see her, and the moment has finally arrived...

First off, I need to be transparent and say that @axolotl-yawn's redesign is definitely what motivated me to get off my butt and stop ignoring Whiteout (The amount of requests DID make me nervous.) Please go check out their design!

Onto the thought process - I first started this design by considering what I liked the least about Whiteout's canon appearance, so that I could gauge some kind of idea of where I wanted to go. The high contrast and lack of color definitely bothered me (even though it makes sense she'd be a greyscale dragon, being ice/night. I need my colors.) I also felt that her hybrid features were a lot of this-or-that, and she lacked codominant features which could've potentially looked cooler. Obviously these are just my personal preferences! I tried to stay very personal with this redesign, since there's just so much Whiteout content already and I wanted to challenge myself to stay as original as possible.

With that in mind, I established that I was going to use a lot of semi-saturated colors, focusing heavily on blending her hybrid features as best as possible into something that reminded me a little bit of melting ice/thin layers of ice you'd see on a volcanic rock. To implement this, I gave Whiteout an ice-like underbelly and more swirl patterns than she probably needed, just to reinforce that slightly whimsy vibe she has and make her shapes/lines match darkstalker's description of her mind. I thought it would be fun to blend ice/night spines with Whiteout, and made hers equally curvy and sharp. There are tons of other little things - I could talk about the redesign forever, but this post is long enough as is!
