i was talking with someone in estonian since we were next to the river and neither of us fish so we were trying to talk about this certain fish, she was describing it as "the long one with the ugly head" but we couldnt remember the name
then i remembered the song hei hoi hauki from suomitumppu and thought "pike has an ugly head. and pike is hauki in finnish. and finnish is estonian with extra letters" so i tenitively said
"...hauk?"
and guess what. haug was the right word. this is the kind of linguistics that can only come from the internet

#forever cursing the local trans healthcare monopoly very strictly gating vaginoplasty to BMI 28 and under#like even if you ignore everything wrong with BMI just yesterday in the news we had the stats that 25% of the population here is over BMI 3#extrapolating BMI 28+ from that among a demographic that's#1. less likely to do sports (because of transphobia)#2. more likely to be sedentary and stay inside (because of transphobia)#3. more likely to have eating disorders in a direction or another (because of gender dysphoria (and transphobia))#that means they're most likely denying every third transfem's surgery unless they lose weight#and let me tell you they fucking ENFORCE that shit#i've heard of a pretty harrowing account where someone with IMMENSE bottom dysphoria had her surgery postponed the day of#in that extra wait she then put on JUST a little too much weight for them so they canceled her rescheduled surgery altogether#which drove her to the brink of suicide so they cancelled it EXTRA hard because of her “instability”#even though they were literally the sole cause of the issue and were punishing her (with at worst death) for it#the left-wing economic positions leaving my body as soon as public monopoly trans healthcare is mentioned (and for good reason)#obviously free to low-cost trans healthcare is vital#but you simply cannot have the sole arbiters of an entire country's trans people be conversion therapists lobbying for GAC bans in the US#and in the system here we're powerless to change that for the better in any way precisely because they're a self-regulating monopoly#so even i have to concede and say we should open up the field to private competition#not privatIZE but allow a choice between public and private#this is my third or fourth edit of these tags and of course it cut off one of the tags (30 not 3) and i also regret writing all this#and my head hurts

Idiotic hot take of mine:
Children should be introduced to computers via the command line only.
No smartphones. No iPad babies. We use BASH in this household.
Pros:
- Children have to actually learn how a computer works in order to use it.
- No dark design patterns. No hyperoptimized attention vortex in your pocket.
- Your 7 year old can brag to the other kids on the playground that they use Arch btw.
- Easier to sandbox into a VM to prevent installation of malware.
- Can use FreeDOS to raise them with an understanding of legacy systems.
- By the time they figure out how to connect to the internet they will be ready for it.
