How Do BedBug Bites Look Like on Human Skin
Bed bugs are tiny, flat,oval-shaped, nocturnal insects that feed on human blood. They usually feed at night when humans are in deep sleep which is why most people will not notice or feel it.
Different people react to bed bug bites differently. Some are quick to form reactions while others can take up to 14 days to have a reaction. Research indicates that most people become more sensitive with each bed bug bite.
Most of the time, bed bug bites look like red or pinkish bumps on the skin, clustered together or in a zigzag line. The bites may also appear randomly on the skin. Other people develop welts and/ or hives on the skin while others develop blisters. Some people will not develop any bite marks or reactions. Bed bug bites are not known to transmit diseases to humans. However, repeated bites and continuous scratching can result in skin infections and in very rare cases, life-threatening reactions.
The presence of bed bugs and bed bug bites also increases anxiety among affected people. It should be noted that the presence of bed bugs is not always an indication of poor hygiene. Bed bugs do not live on the host (human) like lice. Detecting their presence necessitates inspecting the dark areas of your home where they are most likely hiding.
Most people will notice blood spots on their bedding the next day and irritation where they have been bitten. These bites are more likely found on skin areas that are usually exposed during the night such as the neck, arms and legs.
Bed bugs leave behind a characteristic foul smell, exoskeletons and droppings indicating where they have been in your house. Bed bug bites are commonly confused for mosquito or flea bites. One of the ways to minimize the effect of bed bug bites on the skin is to wash the affected area with soap and warm water and afterwards applying an antiseptic cream or taking antihistamine tablets to stop the itching. If the reaction is severe, visit your dermatologist for more effective treatment.
Since bed bugs can survive without feeding for more than six months and reproduce really fast, it can be difficult to get rid of them. They are also easily transferable through infested clothes, bags, shoes and even storage containers. If you notice droppings and exoskeletons in mattress folds, crevices and furniture cracks, chances are high that you have an infestation. In such cases, enlist the services of professional bed bug exterminators.

How to Identify Bed Bug and Manage the Infestation
Introduction
Bedbugs are small parasitic insects that will feed exclusively on blood. They are also quite evolved as they specialize on prey such as bats and humans. Cimex Lectularius is the species that is of interest to us today as it feeds exclusively on human blood and occasionally your pets.
This insect is prevalent all over the America’s, Europe, Africa and Asia. Basically, where human beings are, this blood thirsty insect is bound to lurk. Bed bugs prefer warm habitats especially near where people live and sleep and can be seen hiding in beddings, couches and surrounding cracks and crevices as they wait for their human hosts to slumber off for their meals to begin.
Bed Bug Identification
Most people have never seen a bedbug and over 7 out of 10 adults cannot positively identify these pests and will confuse them with small cockroaches and even other insects. This makes the case for Bedbug identification and control difficult and is further compounded by the fact that most people do not react to bedbug bites. This means that a person might not even know that there is an infestation until they can positively ID the pests or someone who is bite reactive happens to visit them.
Bedbugs are not deterred by hygiene and have been sighted in five-star hotels, cruise ships, high-end apartments and other places where hygiene is strictly observed. Bedbugs can only be diagnosed by positively identifying the small brownish -reddish flightless insects and the tell tale signs of their presence which includes: 1. Black fecal stains on your beddings and or couch 2. Blood stains on your beddings, and pajamas 3. Bite marks on your exposed skins areas such as the neck, shoulders, and face 4. The insects emit a repulsive odor when crushed 5. Clear Exo skeletons that are shed as these bugs grow.
Bedbug Infestation and Its management
Bedbug infestation management should be left to an authorized and licensed pest control company. Someone may ask why and here are some of the reasons behind this recommendation.
– Bedbugs have become increasingly immune to some of the remedies used over the years especially home based treatments such as alcohol, soda ash and so on.
– Government control over pesticides for the sake of public safety. That means your own safety as some pesticides cannot just be arbitrarily used indoors and will affect you, small kids and even your pets. A professional exterminator is well versed with pesticide codes and will recommend the best approach for site treatment.
– Positively identifying bed bug infestation and controlling it in your premises means that your neighbor is left with a problem especially in apartments and flats. This means that a re-infestation is imminent after a certain period of time. A professional exterminator will ensure that the entire building is treated so that no re infection can occur for the entire premises.
Final Words
I always like to say that Cheap is always expensive in the long run. Whereas I have seriously advocated for the use of professional services and laid out the reasons, going for your own home remedies means that you could violate pesticide codes (highly illegal), treat the problem halfway or for a short period and therefore increase these pests resistance to control methods.
In the end having to go to a professional will cost you more as the problem will have reached an infestation level and therefore cost you more.
