i just realized one of my ocs names translates perfectly into a vulcan name (tekite -> t'kite). im gonna make an expy

apologies if applicable, but theres something thats been bugging me about one of my ocs, but i dont really trust myself to discern whether its racist or not on my own

the character is a tf2 demoknight oc. theyre a magic sword forged during the golden age of piracy in port royal, jamaica (chosen for being a major hub of piracy but yeah) and, shortly after, enchanted by a wizard, granting them sapience and incredible magic powers. they were weilded by various famous pirates, but eventually got stuck on a sinking ship and left at the bottom of the ocean for ~220 years. after being recovered by divers, breaking out of a museum, and finding a corpse to possess, theyre now off on their own working as a demoknight for RED

the problem comes from a combination of two things: though the vast majority of my ocs are nonhuman, i like to think occasionally about what they would be like if they were human; and given the place they were forged, the fact the corpse theyre posessing is Black because theyre a demoknight and demoman/knight ocs are expected to be Black or otherwise of color, and the fact that theyre a demoknight, its difficult not to see their human self as Black

but they spent a good chunk of their existence as just a tool/weapon for others to use, which could be kinda racist on a meta level, thinking about it

if it is racist, i can think of two ways to potentially remedy it: either make it so they arent percived as Black, or change their backstory so all their past "weilders" were being actively posessed by them (and thus could more accurately be described as being weilded by them)

I gotta be honest, there's a lot going on here, that I feel like I don't have enough knowledge of the canon to really make a judgment 😅

I definitely see that it can be awkward bc given your time period, ye olde Slavery is something to consider as you have this Black character being built and then wielded as a tool. I do like your second option; let their wielders be Black, too. Why should their identity be changed?

Why do they have to possess a corpse? Maybe... Idk, someone Black who would want to be a part of this deal? Maybe a descendant of a past wielder? I wish I had better answers but I admit I am a bit overwhelmed by this one.
