When Brazilian graphic designer Carol Rossetti began posting colorful illustrations of women and their stories to Facebook, she had no idea how popular they would become.
Thousands of shares throughout the world later, the appeal of Rosetti’s work is clear. Much like the street art phenomenon Stop Telling Women To Smile, Rossetti’s empowering images are the kind you want to post on every street corner, as both a reminder and affirmation of women’s bodily autonomy.
“It has always bothered me, the world’s attempts to control women’s bodies, behavior and identities,” Rossetti told Mic via email. “It’s a kind of oppression so deeply entangled in our culture that most people don’t even see it’s there, and how cruel it can be.”
Rossetti’s illustrations touch upon an impressive range of intersectional topics, including LGBTQ identity, body image, ageism, racism, sexism and ableism. Some characters are based on the experiences of friends or her own life, while others draw inspiration from the stories many women have shared across the Internet.
“I see those situations I portray every day,” she wrote. “I lived some of them myself.”
Despite quickly garnering thousands of enthusiastic comments and shares on Facebook, the project started as something personal — so personal, in fact, that Rossetti is still figuring out what to call it. For now, the images reside in albums simply titled “WOMEN in english!“ or ”Mujeres en español!“ which is fitting: Rossetti’s illustrations encompass a vast set of experiences that together create a powerful picture of both women’s identity and oppression.
One of the most interesting aspects of the project is the way it has struck such a global chord. Rossetti originally wrote the text of the illustrations in Portuguese, and then worked with an Australian woman to translate them to English. A group of Israeli feminists also took it upon themselves to create versions of the illustrations in Hebrew. Now, more people have reached out to Rossetti through Facebook and offered to translate her work into even more languages. Next on the docket? Spanish, Russian, German and Lithuanian.
It’s an inspiring show of global solidarity, but the message of Rossetti’s art is clear in any language. Above all, her images celebrate being true to oneself, respecting others and questioning what society tells us is acceptable or beautiful.
“I can’t change the world by myself,” Rossetti said. “But I’d love to know that my work made people review their privileges and be more open to understanding and respecting one another.””

We just slay like that 💅🏻💅🏻💅🏻💅🏻✨✨✨🖤🖤🖤
It's incredible to me how we, as writers, can wear so many skins.
We write as genders, not our own, in worlds that don't exist.
We slip into the bodies of the powerful, the ruthless, the fearless, while sitting in a one-bedroom apartment, praying for stable WiFi.
Writers are shapeshifters. Necromancers. Magicians. We build universes out of coffee and anxiety.
Writers are incredible, and I will die on that hill.

Tumblr media
He’s kinda girly looking and I completely botched the hair, but it was my first attempt. Also, I’ve seen headcannons and about him being a transman, and bro my bisexual ass can’t tell which is hotter 😭😭😭
Here’s what it says since you can’t really tell;
Skips- “Could I… get a kiss? Please?”
*5 seconds later*
Skips- “…”
Skips- “Thanks… 🖤”
Kya- “You’re welcome, my Umbra 🖤”

"If my book is not perfect then-"
Then what? People will actually discuss it? fill your plotholes with fanfiction and headcanons?
People dont care about perfection. perfection is boring. if your story is perfect people will forget about it. its how we are wired. we remember the strange, the weird and all things left open.
Perfection isnt the goal, interesting is

I made a shrine for Lady Artimis!
I took down my old gathering of Spider-Man things and cleaned the area up with some wipes and cleansed it with a wax candle.
Here is pictures of my Spider-Man thing, and both versions of the shrine
I put in an array of feathers, a small chicken bone, a pinecone, a dream catcher, and three rings; a star one since she’s associated with Lady Selene, a bird one, and a wreath one

So my mom called me earlier today and we were talking about stuff, I don’t really remember what, and then this happened;
Mom- “Do you like anyone?”
Me- “Yeah.”
Mom- “Do you like girls? Are you a lesbean?”
Me- “…no?”
Mom- “Who do you like then?”
Me- “Tom Holland.”
Mom- “I mean like… someone real-“
Me- “Zendaya.”
Mom- “That’s not what I meant.”
Me- “…”
Mom- “…”
Me- “…”
Mom- “She is pretty tho-“
So what I have gathered is; 1 Tom Holland is not a real person, 2 my mom might be pan or bi and might actually support, 3 my mom knows of the term ‘lesbean’ and uses it ironically

POV: What happens when Kya encourages them to get along
Liu- “I put the packet on the glass.”
Jeff- [messing with his knife, not paying attention] “What glass?”
Liu- [used to this] “The little glass dish in the microwave. I close the door-“
Jeff- “What door?”
Sully- [Tired of this] “The door to the micrOWAVE!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!”

Kinda controversial/weird question and I’d like some feedback!!
So I’m writing a book about a non-centaur girl raised by centaurs, and her clothing is really throwing me off. She wears this plain beige dress made from tree bark that goes past her knees, and in the winter she wears a dress similar to that but with sleeves, longer, and more insulated bark.
I have this dress like this to SPITE THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE EVERY GIRL MC HAVE TO WEAR A DRESS AND LOOK HOT. Like yes, my character is beautiful, but she doesn’t flaunt her tits or sway her hips or wear heels like male authors make girls do. (I’m not a man tho, I’m nb, so that might not make sense).
Anyway my question is when is the line of where something has a real purpose and where it’s just weird?
Because my character doesn’t wear shoes obviously, because she’s raised by centaurs who have almost no contact with humans bc of their fighting, so they don’t really know what shoes are. That’s obvious.
But another thing I’m trying to figure out is if I should give her underwear…
Because in my mind I’m like “okay, when they need to use the bathroom, they just go,” because there aren’t toilets in the woods.
And also all the female centaurs cover up their breasts because (bit of history lore) long ago it was just what pregnant and nursing women did to keep the milk warm or whatever, but then when they came in contact with humans, were enslaved, and then escaped, they were forced to cover up their chests always and then the decedents just kept it bc they didn’t know why they did it because they don’t have written history, so they just did it bc they thought they always did.
But they don’t cover up their neither regions because… what if they have to pee??? Am I supposed to give them some elaborate kind of underwear???
So my point is-do I give my more humanoid mc girl underwear even though it doesn’t fit into the world building?
The dress covers up her tits and the centaur women have chest wrappings (or whatever I’m calling it, idk what the name will be), but none of the men or women have underwear, BUT ALSO ITS KINDA WEIRD IF A GIRL’S JUST WALKING AROUND WITHOUT UNDERWEAR??
I’ve already said that it makes sense within context, but I just wanted some outside opinions on this, and if you need any more information about this pls ask and I’ll try my best to explain.
