“A-Ah, no,” he manages, looking a little pale at the thought, and shakes her hand. “I-I’ll be guiding you via radio and camera.” The thought of going out on the field makes him really nervous; he’s just a spy, he can’t do that. Especially with the state he’s in.
He fidgets nervously. “It’s-- It’s nice to meet you, too, War,” he says, and then there’s a beat before he continues. “I’m, um, I’m sorry for-- for this,” he apologizes. “I’m just--” A few months out of a mental hospital? “N-Naturally anxious. I’m better when I’m working, though, promise.” When he was working, it was a distraction, which was good. He scratches at one of the bandages on his face and smiles. “I-I’m looking forward to working with you.”
She paused and re-racked the heavy bar she had been benching. She sat up and looked at the new comer, taking in his appearance. Octopus. Another animal name. He seemed a bit nervous. Well, really nervous actually. She stood up and put the top part of her MES uniform back on over her tank top. After smoothening out her black camo uniform she approached the other.
“Nice to meet you Octopus.” She extended her hand to the other. “So you’ll be going out on missions with me then?” He…didn’t look like much of a soldier, but looks could be deceiving. She knew that better than anyone.

@cipherspy
He was on the Medical Platform, getting some of his bandages changed and some stitches removed, as well as getting a (mandatory) eval; Ocelot had made it clear that while he was getting a lot of slack due to his skill, he still had to function okay. Which was fine with Finn; he wanted to function okay, too.
He’s let loose early, so he spends a little time wandering the platform, and stops when he sees a girl sitting on a chair in one of the hallways. He hasn’t seen her before, and he tilts his head curiously. “Um...hello?” He says, holding up a hand and moving a little closer, hoping the now-visible scars on his cheek and the bandages still on his nose and cheek and forehead don’t frighten her.

@askwar
The young man pauses in the doorway, sticking his head in the training room to watch for a moment, blinking. Big blue eyes and a mop of red hear are visible, but not much else is through the bandages on his face. He’s dressed in standard Diamond Dogs fatigues, though he seems too skinny to be much of a soldier.
“Um, War?” He asks, and his voice is a little thin and nervous. “I’m, um, Octopus, I’m with the Intel Team, uh...” He laughs awkwardly. “I, uh, they told me I’ll be working as your mission control from now on; they’re um. Working out a new system so all soldiers sent out on missions have their own Intel Team member, s-so we can take on more missions.” That had been what Mr. Miller had told him at least.

headcanon; call me ishmael au
I AM DOING IT. I am doing an AU where Octopus is Ishmael, so I can interact with all ya’ll MGSV blogs.
In this AU, here’s his backstory:
He was still born in 1964; in this AU, when his father died, his mother took him to Hollywood. He became a child actor, and when his mother died when he was 12 he was drafted into the CIA. He was 18 when he had a mental break, the stress of his job and the jumble of identities causing his anxious, fragile psyche to snap.
Revolver Ocelot found him a year later and busted him out of this mental hospital, recruiting him for the Diamond Dogs and giving him the code name Ishmael when it was time to rescue Big Boss from the Cyprus hospital.
He’s hanging out on Mother Base in charge of the Intel Team, though his still shaky mental health prevents him from doing anything in the field. His face is still healing from the damage he did to it, but when it does, he’ll look just fine, albeit with a few scars.
He goes by Finn, or Ishmael, or sometimes Octopus -- he likes Ishmael, mostly.

He tugs the boy onto his lap, reaching under his bandages to scratch at the itching, healing stitches. “Can’t sleep?” He asks. “It’s okay, I’ve got you.” He thinks a moment, and kicks the duffel bag he’d recovered from the hospital a little, wiggling a book out with a free hand. “This always puts people to sleep; and it’s funny, too -- it’s where Ocelot got our callsigns from. The book’s not funny, though, the book’s boring. Which is good for sleep.”
He balances it on his knee, and flips it open. “Call me Ishmael. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world...”

NOTE THAT MUN IS NOT AS MUCH OF AN EXPERT ON MOVIES AS OCTOPUS IS PLEASE DON’T TAKE MY WORD AS LAW.

Do you think it is possible to make a good movie adaptation of a videogame? Since comic and book movie adaptations have been successful, yet the videogame ones have been so far absolute failures.
He snorts. “Well, critically, yes -- every video game movie’s been a failure, and none of them are above 30% on Rotten Tomatoes -- I check. It’s a pretty good litmus.” He shrugs. “But personally, I kind of enjoy some of them. But I’m not the general public, and I’m certainly not a gamer, who tend to be the most vocal about their displeasure.”
He taps a finger to his cheek. “See, you need three things for a good movie -- a good script, a good director, and a good cast. From what I can tell, most video games movies either don’t have the first, don’t have the second, or don’t have either of the first two.” He sighs. “If you can get the right scriptwriter, and the right director, honestly I think it can be done.”

▲ You ever saw a movie so bad that you just sit there and go, 'Why?'
“Yes,” he says immediately, and groans. “Oh, god, yes. Sometimes I sit there and just. Debate walking out? But I hate wasting money, so I end up sitting there anyway. The whole movie.” He looks resigned. “The things I do for the love of movies.”
He pauses, and looks thoughtful. “Actual titles, though,” he muses, and then makes a face. “Manos: The Hands of Fate. Superman IV. Mommie Dearest. Uh...Batman and Robin, the ‘97 one -- oh, god, why.” He puts his head in a hand. “Uh, also Battlefield Earth... Oh, god, The Room. Who let that man make a movie, anyway? Anything by Uwe Boll, um...pretty much all of Adam Sandler’s recent work...” He trails off, and laughs. “I should stop now.”
