otto considers himself well-dressed, clean-cut. his suits are tailored and dry cleaned. his safehouses, sparse in gotham and lacking in square footage, dressed in modern furnishings. he is culturally aware and familiar with major movements of art. he is neither gaudy nor ostentatious, and thus considers his aesthetic choices to be in good taste. (there's a truth to be borne here: that there cannot be a version of otto that is unkempt, that is sloppy or unsure. to suggest that his ego had finally scarred over the wounds of his childhood would be a lie — remaining within the boundaries of acceptability, to smooth over what differed taste he had with a layer of lukewarm conservatism, was to remove unnecessary targets from his back.)

the joker is a stab of made-up color in the center of the room, muted in a draping ivy university shirt that bears holes around the ring of the collar. (even if he were to stoop to joker's terms, here, he ought to be glad otto could afford him something vintage.) against him, otto muses, the walls look a certain shade of grey. there's blood on the carpet. he'll inquire about a professional cleaning.

"i brought you into my house and mended you. you used my shower. i gave you my clothes," he notes, too, through a distal monitor, the slash of blood across his lapels, "you ruined my suit." what space there is to be afforded is consumed by the shape of otto, the heft of his size, the arms that slither and feel up the walls. in a way he has always known the boundaries of his body to extend outwards, to take up an additional space; as a child he'd never known what to do with his hands. mapping the shape of the room now, he does, claws like snakeheads boxing them in, closing in on all angles. for better or for worse, transhuman or not, his presence has always beckoned the unwitting to try him.

otto regards the joker with a sincere disdain that extends through this moment and well beyond it. "and now you insult me."
