the thing that fucks with me the most about fitz and chivalry is not only that his name and existence is dependent on chivalry's lost legacy, but that even after he dies - he is reminded by everyone who's ever known chivalry and fitz that he's his SPITTING IMAGE. like if i heard how i looked exactly like my noble-principled-selfless-DEAD father on a particularly bad day after i got back from murdering people i would actually turn the knife on myself. which is why when fitz makes extraordinarily fucking dumb decisions i feel honor-bound to defend him in my head, like i get it, you continue acting oblivious baby girl you deserve to treat yourself

The trick to reading Realm of the Elderlings is to get so entangled into Fitz’s mind and narration that you’re making every stupid decision with him

Fitz's relationship with his adopted son: the normal ups and downs of dealing with a teenager; realising your kid isn't a baby anymore & is making his own way into the world + figuring out what to do with his life & letting him make his own mistakes bc he trusts that you'll be there to pick him up again

There are a lot of interesting things to be said about luck and appearing knowledgeable when it comes to kennit. Like of course there’s the obvious running theme of “making your own luck” but there is also the fact that hiding what you know can be used to bolster faith in you, rather than deplete it, when it’s revealed

if Kenneth had previously talked about knowing a live ship before vivacias “death” (I don’t think she’s dead for real, probably in a coma like wintrow was) then he wouldn’t be able to pull that card out now and use it as a kind of Special Reveal to rally faith in his plans to revive her. sure, he would still be able to bring up that he’s known life ships before and doesn’t think they die that easily, but it wouldn’t be as much of a striking moment I guess is the point. It wouldn’t be as impactful, even if it would’ve been better earlier on for him to mention that he knows things about live ships to get ppl to go along with his plans

Also it’s been fun to see Serilla’s trauma response mirror Kennits. Except Kennits been doing this for way longer since he was a little kid, so he’s like Advanced Stage paranoid and afraid of vulnerability. while Serilla is only just starting out on that journey

ROTE to me has some of the best and absolute worst (affectionate) names in fantasy in my opinion, you go from absolute banger names like Civil Bresinga or Fitzchivalry Farseer to names like Jerd and Grag 😭 the curse of the four letter names….

Some fandoms peak for a few months and then stay on life support for the remainder of their days, but all space military fiction fans are so devoted to their fandom for some reason and still regularly check back in with the fandom even decades after the series ever aired like... I genuinely respect your dedication idk how you do it
