there needs to be a cultural shift in america like im not talking about culture war bullshit i mean the average american needs to learn to care about their community and the rest of the world and not be a self-absorbed asshole with a "fuck you i got mine" attitude.
#ppl roll their eyes at me when i connect everything to the covid denialism now but i am so serious#like when ppl talk abt how society has changed since 2020 and just chalk it up to lockdown#and we're not connecting the dots here. it's what happened after lockdown. it's the refusal to sacrifice our comfort for the greater good#it's the leaving the most vulnerable people behind. because we got tired of being inconvenienced#like. i see so many ppl connect the pandemic to the loss of concert/theatre etiquette these days#and they say that its bc the young ppl didn't have live events during their formative years#but it's not just the young people! and even they have had time to learn!#the issue is the doubling down on individualism. people do not want to think about those around them anymore#covid is still killing and disabling people en masse#bc we as a society decided we would rather pretend it didn't exist than put in the effort to take care of each other#and if we can't be bothered to think about our neighbors safety why would we think about even being kind to them!#why would we bother thinking about the people next to us at live events! or about the performers we're watching!#and i am so serious the way to start shifting this cultural mindset is to start wearing a mask again#fighting fascism starts with caring about the people around you. we can't take care of each other if we're all too sick to get out of bed.#we don't get to just say 'well i'm young and healthy so it's not my problem'#you have the power to make the world a little bit safer and more accessible. to make the air a little cleaner#you don't even need to sacrifice much. you just need to put a mask on your face. that is literally it
