Dimension update
Fixed a couple more inaccuracies, added a few more objects, such as TON 618 in Powers of Ten mode and J1407b in Scale of the Universe mode.

like it's deliberately nauseating and always tracking the player from the most nonsensical vantage points and you have to make it stop somehow
i should make a third person game where the camera is an actual enemy

Small updates for Dimension, Welcome & Colorcat Evolution
Changed the Orion Nebula image. The lack of detail in that one has always bothered me lol
Added Whispley, the librarian. And a few other little thinglethongles, as always.
Trying to improve this thing based on suggestions I got on youtube.
Increased the population at which the kitties stop having babies to 120 - I don't wanna remove it just yet in case you decide to play with the radiation level and stuff & that causes insane population booms that would destroy your computer.
Corrected the average colour display, it felt too dark.
Attempting to implement natural population control through food quantities by gauging the evolution of colorcats and trees, which is proving to be pretty difficult. I'm not sure how I feel about the results. I made the rate at which the colorcats can reproduce be affected by their health, social, and overall population - the latter honestly feels like cheating, but it can be offset by the other two factors. Let me know if anything seems ridiculous.

i got a few suggestions on youtube about the evolution simulator so i've been trying to implement those. gauging the evolution of colorcats and trees so that the population would be naturally controlled is proving to be very difficult. the cats either go extinct, multiply relentlessly or eat the trees into extinction after just a couple of centuries. and other times the population just fluctuates wildly. i don't even know if that's accurate or not, i probably need to do research
doesn't help that i seem to be at a low point of my creative cycle lol
i guess i'll leave the simulator alone for a bit and look at it again later, see what i can do with a clearer mind.

Colorcat Evolution is out!
This game simulates evolution and natural selection using colorful three-legged cat creatures. Their colours represent their stats: overall brightness is health, amount of red is speed, green is defense, and blue is how social they are. The kitties will roam their little world and occasionally produce offspring by mixing their genes with each other, and the offspring will be slightly mutated... or not so slightly, if you choose to raise the radiation levels. The genetic changes will accumulate over time and gradually affect the entire population. You can play around with the initial setup of the simulation and natural conditions during it, and even control the critters and try to ensure the survival of their families yourself. Hope you have fun! Let me know if you have any suggestions and whatnot.

Raised the radiation level to almost 1 and I think God just came down to the earth.
Tumblr media
So I caved and made an evolution simulator of those three-legged cats from the "TEALING IS AGAINST THE LAW" comic.
Tumblr media
The way I did it is by giving them a bunch of stats that change by a random small amount every time they reproduce. The stats are represented by their color, with overall brightness meaning health, the amount of red meaning speed, green meaning defense, and blue meaning how social they are.
Here's the world from the above screenshot after a century of evolution. The population of this run got lucky and their stats are now literally off the charts thanks to natural selection!
Tumblr media
ignore the insanely long average lifespan lol they dont actually live that long i just messed up the math somehow
The kitties' incredibly catchy names consist of their generation, family, and index within that family. PR and RR stand for poison & radiation resistance - some trees are poisonous, and the radiation level (which affects how mutated the children can be) slowly drains the cattos' health.
Tumblr media
The white lines point towards their children, and green ones towards their parents. Usually they'll only reproduce if their overall population is less than 81, otherwise they'll just run around until they die, decreasing the population.
Tumblr media
They also have a simple AI that makes them approach their current object of interest, such as another colorcat or a tree with yummy fruits, and run away from their current object of avoidance, such as a poisonous tree or an aggressive colorcat.
Here's some examples of antisocial colorcats who punch everyone they come across.
This has been lots of fun to program and play around with! I'll make it available very soon, just gotta make a trailer or something.
