tom riddle is soooo insecure that it makes me giggle thinking about how that painfully adolescent insecurity would translate into a post canon voldemort with an unfortunate soft spot for this guy he can’t seem to kill no matter what he does. like older harry and younger tom makes sense with that dynamic because harry has emotional maturity and can provide the love/affection tom was so clearly starved for but younger harry and older tom/voldemort...... oh my god the oldmanloser potential for disaster. specifically thinking about voldemort wins au's and/or arranged marriage where he inevitably realizes that harry has been through more than he realized and HE has to be the older more mature one that provides comfort to the hurt or whatever. & obviously the guy who has followers instead of friends, chooses fear over love, doesn’t know wtf he’s doing so that comfort ends up just being threateningly off-putting at best. like. “uhh why are you. touching my neck. from behind me. with your. nails” “i am providing physical reassurance” “i don’t think that that’s what this is.” don’t even get me started on the holidays and presents and generally basic displays of affection. harry hungers for that kind of stuff bc he never had it but the problem is that tom also never had it so now what. neither of these emotionally stunted bastards know what to do and someone has to do something so now the weirdo bald snake guy with no nose is decorating a christmas tree, I Guess. accidental postwar domestication of ur local dark lord except he’s still evil he’s just old
