The president implied that the BLS commissioner, longtime federal employee Erika McEntarfer, manipulated the data "for political purposes."

President Donald Trump on Friday ordered the firing of the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, hours after a stunning government report showed that hiring had slowed down significantly over the past three months.
Taking to Truth Social, he attacked Erika McEntarfer, the commissioner of the BLS. He claimed that the country's jobs reports "are being produced by Biden appointee" and ordered his administration to terminate her.
"We need accurate Jobs Numbers," Trump wrote. "She will be replaced with someone much more competent and qualified. Important numbers like this must be fair and accurate, they can’t be manipulated for political purposes."
An administration official told NBC News shortly after the post that McEntarfer had indeed been fired.

Ryan Grenoble and Arthur Delaney at HuffPost:
The Bureau of Prisons has transferred Ghislaine Maxwell from a federal prison in Florida to a minimum-security facility in Bryan, Texas. The transfer happened as Maxwell, an accomplice of the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, seeks a deal with the Trump administration, eager to tamp down a furor over its refusal to release its files on Epstein. Maxwell attorney David Markus confirmed the move to HuffPost but declined to comment any further. Earlier this week, Markus wrote in a letter to members of Congress seeking Maxwell’s testimony that she’d be happy to speak in exchange for a pardon or commutation from President Donald Trump. Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence for helping Epstein recruit and groom underage girls for sexual exploitation by Epstein, Maxwell and others. Epstein died by suicide in federal custody in 2019 shortly after he’d been indicted.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said earlier this year she had an Epstein “client list” on her desk and that the files would soon be released, but last month the Justice Department said it would release no further information about the case, which has been the subject of rampant speculation, prompting a furious backlash from some of Trump’s strongest supporters outside of government. Trump’s name is reportedly mentioned in the files.
This is a grossly insane idea, point blank. Putting Ghislaine Maxwell in anywhere other than an max-security prison is heinously irresponsible.

Donald Trump announces that the East Wing of the White House will go through a $200 million dollar expansion to build a ballroom.
While cost of living is rising to unprecedented levels, inflation is on the rise up to 2.7% now, 17 million Americans are set to be kicked off their health insurance in the next 10 years with cuts to Medicaid and Social Security + student loan and Medical debt being impacted on Credit Scores now, he finds $200 million dollars to build a damn ballroom for his rich friends to party in while we all fight for scraps
At this point, it may be safe to say that he’s using the tariff tax revenue he’s stealing from American taxpayer consumers to fund this project under the guise of “him paying for it”.
If Republicans claimed they were so adamant on cutting government spending, then where did you get $200 million dollars to build this shit? Why aren’t these “donors” using the money to pay down the debt, or invest in housing?
It’s the Capitol politics in the Hunger Games all over again.

If any one of us were to accidentally cause the death of one person — our grief would overwhelm us. Trump and Musk are deliberately causing the needless death and suffering of men, women, children, and babies on a truly massive scale — and they're totally fine with it. Take a moment to think about the consequences of having leaders who are filled with power, ...but empty of morals. History has repeatedly taught us, and we intuitively know, that power without morals is a very bad combination.

Malcolm Ferguson at TNR:
On Saturday night, the Israeli Defense Forces surrounded, beat, and choked American labor leader Chris Smalls as they unlawfully boarded the Handala, the most recent aid ship trying to reach Gaza as part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition. Smalls was the only Black person on the flotilla and was punished much more severely than any of the other 20 members detained. “When he reached the Israeli prison, U.S. human rights defender Chris Smalls was physically assaulted by seven uniformed individuals,” the Freedom Flotilla Coalition announced Tuesday morning. “They choked him and kicked him in the legs, leaving visible signs of violence on his neck and back. When his lawyer met with him, Chris was surrounded by six members of Israel’s special police unit. This level of force was not used against other abducted activists. We condemn this violence against Chris and demand accountability for the assault and discriminatory treatment he faced.” “Pretty hard to believe that the particularly heinous and brutal treatment Christian Smalls was subjected to by Israeli authorities was not a function of racism given it was not inflicted on other Handala detainees,” University of New Brunswick professor Nathan Kalman-Lamb wrote on Bluesky. “And the US media dgaf.”
Smalls entered the public eye in 2022 after successfully founding a labor union at a Staten Island Amazon factory, garnering national praise and even a White House invitation from President Biden. Now he remains beaten and battered in IDF custody. The IDF targeting the one Black man on the aid ship is sadly unsurprising, as is the lack of uproar from U.S. politicians and large media outlets. Yet another U.S. citizen assaulted and detained by the IDF, yet not a peep from either side of the aisle because Smalls is a Black American leftist who was standing up to Israel’s campaign of mass starvation and trying to deliver baby food and flour to suffering Palestinians in Gaza. [...]
While smaller unions have spoken up to condemn Smalls’s arrest, Teamsters—which worked with Smalls on the Amazon Labor Union—has yet to make a statement on his violent detainment, failing spectacularly to meet the moment.* While Smalls and other flotilla members remain in IDF custody, the coalition plans to send another aid ship very soon, yet another direct challenge to the Israeli government.
IOF terrorists beat up and detain Amazon Labor Union leader Chris Smalls, and was one of the 21 on the Handala. The Handala was the latest flotilla to try to deliver aid to Gaza, only for Israel Apartheid State to intercept the flotilla.

The Senate on Tuesday confirmed Emil Bove to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, launching President Trump’s former personal lawyer to a lifetime appointment on the bench amid a series of whistleblower complaints about his conduct.
Bove, currently in the No. 3 role at the Justice Department, is the subject of three different complaints in recent weeks, with two alleging he suggested violating court orders and a third saying he reportedly misled Congress on the dropping of bribery charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams (D).
His nomination was confirmed with a 50-49 vote, with Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Susan Collins (Maine) crossing the aisle to join all Democrats in opposing his nomination.
