Preach!
MY THOUGHTS ON WEDNESDAY AND ENID
The truth is, almost half the Wednesday fanbase are Wenclair shippers/fans. Understandable, given the way Enid has become special to Wednesday and their developing friendship in the season one. And then, The Hug on the night of the Red Moon. If we get Wenclair canon, that would be such a huge thing for a majority of the show's fanbase. However, even if we do not get Wenclair cannon, I will still be satisfied.
Here's why.
Like Wednesday said, the mark Enid left on her is indelible. And that is the truth. Enid got Wednesday to care for someone outside of her family. That's big. By the end of the series, Enid was not just a resource to Wednesday like Xavier was, or someone she grudgingly respected like Weems and Bianca. Enid was someone Wednesday cared about. And it was such an interesting thing to see. Wednesday's change from episode one to the end of the series is all mostly caused by Enid or towards Enid.
First of all, Wednesday listens to Enid. Wednesday wanted Enid's help and Enid told her to apologize to Thing and she'll think about it. Wednesday apologizes. The murder board makes Enid faint. Wednesday relocates it. Enid talks to Wednesday about her outfits for the date, Wednesday looks at the options, even though she says she feels like Enid napalmed her. Wednesday gets into costume for the Poe Cup. Wednesday listens and gives special treatment to Enid that nobody else gets in all of season one. She listens to Enid. And that girl is stubborn as hell and doesn't listen to anybody, Weems would tell you that😂. But Enid is the exception. Enid gets her ears and her attention.
And then, there's the physical touch. Wednesday only grudgingly accepts physical touch from her family. Stiff backed reception of hugs from Gomez and Pugsley, and shoulder touches from Morticia. And yet, Enid has more physical touches than every other character in season one. Except Thing. Like the Poe Cup episode. Enid literally shakes Wednesday's shoulders and holds on as they celebrate. Wednesday does not complain or pull away. She does not even glare. Fast-forward to the last episode and we have The Hug. Wednesday who is very stiff with the rare hug, allows Enid to hug her. Not only that, she hugs Enid back with eyes closed.
We see Wednesday blatantly emotional twice in the season. When Thing was stabbed and during The Fight. Her eyes were shiny with tears and after Enid left, she looked so despondent. Wednesday, the most independent hardass, sat on the floor with hunched shoulders, admitting that for the first time, loneliness does not appeal to her. THAT WAS SO HUGE. The Fight was one of the biggest character development scenes in Wednesday and we will see the effects of that fight till the very end.
Enid made Wednesday feel. Victory, when they won the Poe Cup. Regret, during The Fight. Relief, when Enid came back. And Vulnerability, during The Hug ™®.
Wednesday and Enid are a pair. Like adulthood and taxes, they are forever intertwined. Maybe they don't end up as romantic soulmates, but they will be platonic soulmates. Either way, they are soulmates.
I can't wait to see Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers come back as Wednesday Addams and Enid Sinclair in Wednesday season 2 🫰
