Naruto grew as I grew.

a rant by me.
So listen bro.
I’ve been rewatching Naruto and Shippuden recently and I gotta tell you, I’m so glad I grew up on this show. There’s so much creativity in what makes this series a pioneer in Shounen of the 21st century.
If you’ve ever seen the art work and early concepts, Kishimoto just had this really vivid talent for making relatable fantasies with his world building and character design.

I think the series started the same year I was born and getting to watch this with my older brother as two Jamaican-Americans, was one of the coolest things to experience. Experiencing the anime on late Saturdays on Toonami, Naruto was my break-in to anime. This yellow haired hyperactive-knuckle head of the hidden leaf has such a charming way of being this thoughtful and endearing kid.
I could make a whole seperate post about the Miracle of Naruto in Shounen and How Sasuke & Naruto Redefined Young Rivalries, but I’m focusing on what I’m picking up on my rewatch.
The show has a special way with world building at earliest stages.
From Part 1 to Shippuden, you can see how much of the tone shift in Shippuden was influenced by the popularity it had across the world.
But something undeniable from the first series, is that we don’t need to be on the battlefield everyday. Some of what makes Naruto so interesting is that for ninja, there’s a lot of creativity and storytelling in the world things live within. From the Leaf Villages, steam-punk enhanced rural communities to the charm of the way Ichiraku Ramen is this home for all. If you’re gonna cry with the show, you should laugh too. It’s what makes seeing Jiraiya and Naruto so refreshing at moments. And how even Naruto himself, just has such clever and interesting detail in his laughter and confused expressions about the way he feels compared to the Boruto time skip, where there’s nothing remotely “Naruto” about the way he talks or does anything.

Chunnin Exams 💪🏿.
Bro. Gaara. Rock Lee. Hinata. Orochimaru. Kabuto. Shikamaru. Might Guy. This arc has such a strong story for all of these character arcs and made every one so unique and colorful. Every time shit popped off in this arc, you had to see the next episode immediately. And when talk about the suspense, to this day Orochimaru is one of the most haunting villains in Shounen. Like there were nights where I was like, “Is this nigga serious??”
This mf was hunting down the strongest ninja in the show at this point, ripping the face off ninja to impersonate them, summoned giant snakes, tortured Sasuke and Sakura just by looking at the them with bloodlust, had the craziest fight with Sasuke (Top 5, Top 5), just to be a whole other person with these otherworldly abilities from Hell itself. I know Orochimaru changed a lot in Shippuden, but bro remember when this man’s theme song was the sound of nightmares from under my bed stg 😂
Bro had a Ganondorf boss theme, just for talking 😂😂.
Lemme stop and just move to my last thing lol.
Lastly, we need a Minato prequel.
Let’s be fr. Minato is one of the coldest characters for being an actually good guy with fucking feelings and thoughts and not just some drunk ass behemoth who smashes things and leaves his kids for 6 years cause he got bored. When they gave his love story from Kushina’s perspective to the build up of when Obito attacked the Leaf Village, you could just tell Kishimoto gave a fuck about Naruto’s origin and that meant writing a character that represents what being a Hokage and a village’s leader would mean. And I’m hoping we could get a cool 3 seasons for a Minato, The Prequel show because theres’s so much material and information that would be dope to see. His family life, the Sarurobi, Uzumaki, Uchiha, Senju, and Hyuga families in 3rd Great Ninja War. Exploring Genjutsu. And what made Minato learn the Flying Rajin and become this introverted leader. Kishimoto we need that. And inspired by the early concept art for the world building would be A tiered 👏🏿👏🏿.
That’s all I feel like typing .

But lemme know what you enjoy about Naruto. I’m just having a good time and letting my inner child, so go ahead and tell me whatever pops in your mind :)
✨ thanks for the space 🤙🏿

Creation is such a therapeutic experience, man.
These last couple of weeks have challenged me to do something about how I feel. Don’t get me wrong, I still feel all of that creative block, imposter syndrome bullsh*t.
But it’s okay.
I’m going to embrace the change and just make what needs to be made. And now I can sleep at night.
