I'm currently yoinking AI "art" off Pinterest and redrawing it, and one thing I've noticed about AI is that it can put out some visually interesting designs, but it struggles to pull them together in the way a human mind can.

It adds too many superfluous details, and those details often are complete gibberish. So while the basic concept is there and could even be quite strong if cleaned up, it can't do the cleaning up by itself. Additionally, it doesn't recognize any kind of continuity, so you end up with details changing between images of what is supposed to be the same character or otherwise becoming muddy and difficult to discern as anything but blobs of color.

Extremely simple art styles are easier for AI to work with, because there's less to keep track of. For example, a lot of the comics being put out by AI bros right now use a style so simple, it's hard for AI to fuck up. When you get into more complicated pieces, though, a quick glance from anyone who's spent any time creating or consuming real art will reveal it to be AI generated.

I doubt AI will ever be able to properly render these more advanced pieces, because while the human mind can be likened to a machine in many ways, it still isn't a machine. Artificial intelligence isn't on par with human thought yet, and personally, I doubt it ever will be. Computers lack the structures necessary to form truly human thoughts and emotions.

So, yeah, if you want art that isn't highly simplified, you're pretty much always going to have to go to a real, human artist. AI will fuck something up somewhere, because it doesn't work the way the human mind does.
