“Water.” Regulus said. “We need...”
But was it to drink or to get at the mess Regulus was refusing to look at? Both, probably.
Things were happening, then, but if asked later--Regulus couldn’t really remember them. She remembered standing there, towels pressed around her ankles and thighs. She remembered sitting, later, on the edge of a bath tub. More towels. She put her hand under the faucet and it stung, the water in her hands had turned cloudy, but it tasted so sweet she almost fell over the lip of tub to get at it and broken her head a little more.
A little more because Black’s do not drink like dogs, their mother had said once when Sirius had tried to drink from a public fountain. Regulus remembered it and didn’t. A little more because one minute she was in the hallway, the next she was in the bath, a third and there was something softer then a towel bundling her up--and each moment ran together.
And each moment Regulus was not entirely sure how she came to be here.
“Sirius,” She reached out to grab her sisters hand, thens topped short at the strange looking plasters. At least they smelled right--the standard potions to stimulate healing... but ... muggle, probably. She tried to put it out of her mind. “Where’s here?”
She did not ask what she really wanted to: how did I get here?
Of course she might have said any number of things since she came. Regulus certainly didn’t remember.
( continued from here ) @onebyonerp
Not blood. Yeah, Sirius would beg to differ.
The smell hit her almost before the vision did, and it was overwhelming. Something between the sting of iron, the smell of fresh blood that she could taste on her tongue, and something bitter, like blood had been sitting there for years to rot. A rather pungent combination. Sirius let herself focus on that, because it was easier than dealing with the sight in front of her.
One sense at a time.
“You’re– wh– you–,” she choked out, senseless bits and pieces of sentences that never had any shot at being finished.
Sirius felt a little seasick, too, and she hadn’t been near the sea in years. Her eyes were wide, bulging out of her face in that way that made her look like a broken doll, and her mouth opened and closed a few more times as she tried to get her brain to work. It was a lot of blood.
A lot of blood, and it came from nowhere. Where did it start, where did it stop, it was all a blur. She could see the red footprints Regulus left on her way here, to where she was currently standing.
“You’re bleeding,” she echoed, and it was monotone, because it was easier to be practical than to think. It was easier to act, instead of sitting here and screaming, crying, trying to make sense of what was going on. “I’m gonna– I’ll get towels,” her voice failed her now, no more than a breathy attempt at speaking, as she stumbled away in pursue of something to clean her sister up.

that’s…a lot of blood.
“It’s... it's not blood.”
Or maybe it was. Was she bleeding? Maybe. It didn’t matter. Or maybe it did but it didn’t feel important. Not was important as standing here. In this place.
This place. Where was she? Regulus tilted slightly one way, then the next, almost twisting in a circle. Here. Here. Here.
It was important that she was here even though her stomach was burning. She hiccuped and tasted a bit of bile at the back of her tongue. No, not bile. Potion.
“It’s not blood.”
Except her hands. She had caught sight of them when she pushed through the door, snagging on wards that hurt. That had hurt. But probably because her hands were rough. At least three nails were snapped jagged and bloody because...
“But I...” Regulus’ hands fluttered a bit at her sides, a childhood tick resurfacing and sending new pricks down her fingers. “I was thirsty. I was...”
This was not Alphard’s house. He hadn’t had one. Where was Sirius staying? Did it matter?
It was warm. Or warmer. Regulus was fairly certain if she pressed her mouth to the wallpaper she’d just taste gross and muggle. She wasn’t that desperate anyway. Not yet. Not like before when she’d tried to remember not to go down to the waters edge. When she’d tried to think of anything else to make her feel better.
She’d failed, though, in the end. She always did.
Until she was here.
Except maybe that was blood staining her dress from many boney hands raking themselves down her arms and middle and legs. Maybe she wasn’t just sea sick.
“Sirius.” She was missing something. She had no pockets, no wand. Her robes had were little more than rags. “I’m bleeding.”

miscellaneous angst starters.
when were you going to tell me?
you can’t keep doing this to yourself.
that’s…a lot of blood.
can you walk?
please don’t lie to me.
you were supposed to leave.
i’m not going anywhere without you.
shh, it’s okay. it was just a dream.
there was nothing more you could have done.
it wasn’t your fault.
this is all my fault.
you aren’t acting like yourself.
i’m never going to let [her/him/them] hurt you again.
you’re hurting me.
don’t ever do that again.
go to hell.
please don’t cry.
you have to stay awake.
i wish i could take the pain away.
you could have died.
hey – stay with me.
it’ll be over soon.
did you ever love me?
i’m sorry. i can’t do this anymore.
things won’t always hurt this bad.
you passed out.
how much have you had?
i’m okay. it’s all fine.
it’s not okay! you’re not fine!
let me get you something for the pain.
it’s nothing. it’s just a bruise.
it’s clearly not nothing.
have you been to the doctor?
i didn’t mean the things i said.
i thought we meant something.
people who are okay don’t act like this.
you don’t have to go through this by yourself.
i don’t want you to be alone.
please don’t regret me.
i heard you crying.
you need to get some rest.
when was the last time you ate something?
i’m worried about you.
did you have another nightmare?
[name], there’s nobody there.
i want to be happy but i don’t think i deserve it.
please talk to me.
why are you mad at me?
alcohol isn’t going to solve your problems.
don’t leave me.
did you do this to yourself?
it’s breaking my heart to see you like this.
tell me what’s wrong.
tell me how to make it better.
why don’t you care?
get the hell away from me.
please don’t do this.
i can’t believe that you lied to me.
just…stay for the night.
you obviously can’t be trusted to take care of yourself, so let me do it for you.
you can’t die. i won’t let you.
just hang on, okay?
hold my hand if you need to.
i’m sorry.
why do you have a gun?
don’t panic.
just breathe.
you’re bleeding.
i’m trying to stop the bleeding.
you’ve been crying, i can tell.
you should have told me sooner.
i wanted to tell you in person.
a phone call would’ve been nice.
i hate you.
i love you.

Quote
Goethe’s final words: “More light.” Ever since we crawled out of that primordial slime, that’s been our unifying cry: “More light.” Sunlight. Torchlight. Candlight. Neon. Incandescent. Lights that banish the darkness from our caves, to illuminate our roads, the insides of our refrigerators. Big floods for the night games at Soldier’s field. Little tiny flashlight for those books we read under the covers when we’re supposed to be asleep. Light is more than watts and footcandles. Light is metaphor. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Lead, Kindly Light, amid the encircling gloom - Lead Thou me on! The night is dark, and I am far from home - Lead Thou me on! Arise, shine, for thy light has come. Light is knowledge. Light is life. Light is light.
Chris Stevens, “Northern Exposure”
this episode, more specifically this speech, is one of my favorite things in the world.
