QUILT TALK
Secret fact about me, I’m a quilt nerd.
And when writing my most recent fic (which takes place in the late 1800s) I put a quilt in Steve's home (chapter 2 and 6) - which means I spent a really long time looking at late 1800s quilts. There were some real gems but nothing beats this solar system quilt pictured above!
The maker of this quilt was an astronomy teacher in Iowa my home state holy shit. This quilt is actually perfect for my fic thematically (stars! yes!), however absolutely not at all what I envision Sarah Rogers having on the sofa.
Irish quilting was for a long time very simple, born of necessity, and despite the name “irish chain quilt” - that pattern did not (that we know of) originate in Ireland - it likely originated in the states. So I think in reality Sarah would have done what most practical quilters did - which is using any old clothes and misc fabric you can get your hands on - so I imagine her home quilts something like these:

👆This one was a favorite and mostly what I'm envisioning in the fic (doesn't hurt that it's likely from New York), but admittedly because my grandmother was Irish and this was the only style of quilt she made - scrappy 9 blocks - reusing a lot of grandpa’s work wear.
It is possible Sarah Rogers would have a “show quilt,” but these were typically loaned out/borrowed by neighbors for when someone have a guest/visitor staying! Because fabric and quilting (if you were going to have it machine quilted it wasn’t likely you’d do it at home, you’d pay someone) of this type would have been expensive and not accessible to most folks. But can you imagine having this beauty on your bed:

Okay that's it for my quilt round up byyyyyyyye

Can't find the plot? Did you try shaking it really hard?

when the rebellious story refuses to spit out a plot, and then after some shaking, plot drops out like a giant rock

Chapter 2 and 3 (WUT CRAZY) are up and you should go check them out. I am especially pleased with Ch 3 aka Bucky's Bad Day. Our poor pathetic wet boy.
New! Fic! New! Fic! Ah!
Ch 1 of 6 is up on AO3 - as part of the @wipbigbang event!
@gyokujyn made me wonderful art for the fic and chapter headers - aaaaaaaand an incredible playlist on Spotify with cover art - to be revealed with the final chapter! I can't wait to share it all - fae really spoiled me and I cannot say thank you enough. MY HEART. IT IS SO FULL.
Anyways - if you think an Shrinkyclinks Omegaverse Witch AU might be up your alley this is the place to be!
While the Stars Chase the Clouds
When the fair comes to town Steve encounters an imprisoned witch. Chained and studied and starved.
No reasonable person would come to the aid of a witch they don’t know, but "reasonable" is not how anyone would describe Steve Rogers.
