Colby just couldn’t help but keep his eyes on Vernia. Her sharp teeth, that reddish hue she got in her eyes, and of course her beautiful face. He knew he was lucky when he got a chance to rub against her skin, or make her laugh, and especially in this case, hold her on the couch of the motel.
Vernia was utterly exhausted, she had a long day, and all she wanted was to finally fall asleep. Luckily for Colby, his touch was what Vernia needed. He ran his fingers through her hair, and occasionally rubbed his thumbs in circles on her soft skin.
“Vern, I love you..” He confessed so quietly as his hands worked along her temples. Vernia opened her eyes, which were slits due to her fatigue. “I love you too, Colby. Just not how you love me.” She responded lowly.
Colby wasn’t sure to smile or frown. She said that she loved him, but not how he loved her. How else could she love him? He silently wondered to himself. Unlike Colby, Vernia slipped into sleep easily. While Colby was up just about all night wondering how else she could love him. Colby was wrapped around her finger. Just a few words could send his mind into a frenzy.
The next morning, Vernia was well rested and Colby looked like hell. As they brushed their teeth alongside each other in the yellow-lighted bathroom, Vernia looked over a few times. Colby just stared into the mirror blinking slowly. Vernia spat out her toothpaste and decided to speak. “Thanks for putting me to bed, Colby.” She praised softly with a kind smile. Colby simply couldn’t help to crack a smile back. “Anytime, Vern.” He replied, looking over her soft features. Her bed-head, her nice eyebrows, that pretty smile. God, what would he do without Vernia Fawn?
