@011twentyone tagged me in a ‘share the last sentence of your WIP’ challenge, and while i haven’t been on here in forever (i didn’t even watch s4 😭) i miss some of the stuff i’ve had hopelessly jossed….. this was from a fic where oscar’s trying to plead cesar’s case after s1

Spooky dying didn’t move the story forward at all. It was honestly unnecessary. Cesar was already ready to leave. His death didn’t make him want to leave. His death wasn’t the trigger for it. He was already like I’m done after they shot up his house. He finally felt unsafe. He was ready to leave. His death didn’t make that happen for him. His death didn’t make him come to the realization. They honestly killed him to kill him. 

Oscar was the one person the audience said DON’T FUCKING TOUCH… and they went right for him. Fuck that completely.

okay i’ve been thinking about this post and while the real answer is just... bad, inconsistent writing lol, my attempt at analyzing what we see in canon... the highs are high, the lows are low. i don’t think oscar is emotionally closed off as much as he and cesar have a powerful and dysfunctional trauma bond, that was formed through childhood abuse/neglect and the community violence they’re living through— i’m kind of leaning towards the opposite actually, that he struggles to control his emotional expression at all (how many times have we seen him start yelling mid-sentence? 😭) idk if he’s consciously manipulative as much as he has very intense mood swings, including towards cesar? he loves him, and i believe he’s genuine expressing that! but those feelings can turn very quickly into rage/indifference if cesar gets on his bad side— he doesn’t have the tools or maturity to process contradictory emotions at the same time. cesar and oscar are on a nonstop emotional rollercoaster throughout the series and even reverse pursuer/pursued roles at a certain point (cesar pleading with oscar to acknowledge him at the end of s2, oscar saying for most of his life he’s been cesar’s dad at the end of s3 while cesar shoves him away)........ like, if it weren’t These Writers, i’d legit believe it’s a reflection of the trauma they’ve been through and their inability to relate to each other in a healthy way, but i’m 99% sure i’m just grasping at straws right now 😐

yeah u did :( which i get but like don’t they ever just... hug? say i love u? be nice to each other? i’m deprived of their relationship being affectionate😭🥲

🥲😭😭 i mean... probably not all that often tbh while i know we loved oscar being emotional w cesar, in s1 it was a clear manipulation tactic, s2 had him being nice after a season of being terrible but still refusing to let cesar come back home, and s3 had that niceness disappear with the time skip... i think oscar is largely emotionally closed off 🥲🥲

am i really returning to this blog 😭

anyway from the beginning of this show i was always kind of baffled by how the fact that monse’s grandfather was a prophet is dropped in one ep and never referenced again...... like........ what was the point of that, it doesn’t shape anyone’s characterization at all or provide any tension between her and the rest of the santos (though it SHOULD, in a neighborhood where gangs are racially segregated to begin with). i actually thought ‘monty’s a secret prophet’ might be an interesting plotline to run with, but of course it was just a red herring the writers dropped and decided to do nothing with 🙄 goes along with the rest of the nonsensical decisions in s3 i guess!

wtf happened to that monty is a secret prophet storyline in season 3. are these mfs gonna swing back around and tie up that loose thread or just pretend that whole thing never happened? i’m down for the second one honestly. also i hated the whole 19 street storyline sorry

WAIT yes i forgot about that LMFAO that was like a random thing jasmine brought up and i don't understand why?? i think @onmyblockparty wanted to lean into that as a true statement but it honestly felt so out of left field to me... like i think more character work would be needed to have made that true? and we both know that omb writers r not capable of that lmfao... i kind of took it as like a wild theory that jasmine threw out that they ignored but it doesn't change the fact that it was WEIRD to bring up... like all things are important in a script so why bother including that? i tend to ignore it :(

PLS 19th street makes me laugh... why is cuete fifteen years old and why is oscar worried about him and how did they put oscar in a cage. that shooter or shot caller line was absolutely fire tho. kind of hot. this show is terrible :(
