Indian Space Research Organisation (ISR)) on 05 June, 2017 successfully launched its most powerful rocket, GSLV Mk III nicknamed 'Fatboy' , by firing a high thrust indigenous cryogenic engine in the first developmental flight and placed the country's heaviest satellite in orbit. With the launch, Isro has demonstrated its mastery in developing a cryogenic engine, a technology denied to it years ago. The launch proves the homegrown launch vehicle's capability of hurling up to four tonne payload into higher orbits. It has also laid a strong foundation for its ambitious future projects, including Chandraayan-II and a manned mission, besides venturing into the global heavy payload market. GSLV Mk III-D1 carrying communication satellite GSAT-19 lifted off from the second launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 5.28pm IST. The GSLV MkIII-D1, in its first experimental flight, carrying 3,136-kilogram weighed GSAT-19 communication satellite, will take off from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota at 5 p.m. IST today, June 5, 2017. With this India will be in the elite club of launching a heavy satellite. So far, the United States, Russia, Europe, China and Japan have achieved this feat. GSAT-19 is going to be powered for the first time with indigenously-made Lithium-ion batteries. These batteries have been made so that India's self-reliance quotient can increase. The U.S. has "successfully intercepted" an intercontinental ballistic missile during the first test of its ground-based intercept system. The test occurred just days after the North Korean regime launched its ninth missile this year.The ground-based interceptor launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California shortly after 3:30 p.m. ET. A little more than one hour later, the Pentagon confirmed that it had successfully collided with an ICBM-class target over the Pacific Ocean. The ICBM-target was launched from the Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands, 4,200 miles away.The ground-based interceptor system is mainly designed to counter a North Korean missile threat.This was the 18th test of the ground-based interceptor. The last one, in June 2014, was the first success since 2008. The system was nine for 17 since 1999 with other types of shorter-range target missiles. Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova was a female Russian cosmonaut and the first woman to travel in space, aboard Vostok 6. On June 14, 1963, Vostok 5 was launched with Bykovsky aboard. Two days later, Tereshkova became the first woman in space aboard Vostok 6, with the call sign 'Chaika' (Seagull). But the flight was propaganda and future spaceflight opportunities did not develop. She Was married to cosmonaut Andrian Nikolayev. She later turned out to be a leading Communist politician. A group of researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee, have found that a pigment found in jamun (Syzygium cumini) absorbs large amounts of sunlight, that could make solar cells cheaper and more efficient. In brief, researchers used naturally occurring pigment as an inexpensive photosensitiser. They were able to fabricate Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC) by extracting the anthocyanins or the plant pigments from these items. Tejas was primarily built to replace India's ageing fighter fleet of MIG-21 jets that are ingloriously known as the "Flying Coffins". The Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme began in the 1980's The then Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee coined the name "Tejas" to the LCA.
