and dw its not really a zombie au. Like the worldbuilding of the comics, this setting does have some parallels to a typical zombie apocalypse, but the thibgs that run around arent exactly zombies and its not that society has totally collapsed but more that a Totally Not Authoritarian Government :) has taken control

but yeah it does deal with darker themes, injury etc. so do be careful!! <3

So. one of those fanfics was a zombie au inspired by a certain comic series which i did not know at the time. I remember seeing it and thinking "man i should read the comic this is based on" and i proceeded to read the first few pages but never came around to finish the comic. The name of that comic? Killjoys. SO FAST FORWARD A YEAR OR SO GUESS WHO REMEMBERED so yeah I'm in the mcr fandom, I realised Killjoys were written by Gerard Way, and I was DELIGHTED bc I already knew the comic and liked and welp I'm big Killjoys fan now. So. obviously I tried to find that first fanfic. Searched what felt like all of ao3. Nothing. Gave up. Then today I felt weirdly nostalgic so I scrolled through old dsmp fics on ao3 again. AND YOU WILL NOT GUESS WHAT I RANDOMLY FOUND HAHSHAHHSH anyway I am so unreasonably happy oh this is amazing

DRAAG and East Germany (its theory time guys)

So we all know DRAAGis inspired by the Soviet Union but I think we can go a step further and say they draw explicit parralels to East Germany. Hear me out:

Starting with my most concrete hint, Gerard very much sings in Dagger:

You can't see Berlin with the sun in your eye To fail is most high Yes, trust me, a dagger Is just what this plan of war needs

of course we could say that Berlin was just a famous (part) soviet city, but why Berlin? Why not Moskau? Kyiv? Warsaw? No, he mentions specifically Berlin.

2. Gerards uniform

the black parade unifoms got an overhaul from teh last time, we know that. they are more military-ish and dont belong to the old balck parade's more inspiring if macabre setting but instead fit into the political dystopia. The overhaul includes a medal on Gerards uniform

It's black red and gold. Very much the German flag - these colours are also used in the DRAAG national emblem

3. Acronyms

We know that DRAAG means two things: A) a pun with the word drag (bc thats what they r doing lowkey) and B) an acronym (due to the spelling and the fact that the name is sometimes used in sentences like "The DRAAG wishes you a good time" or smth) now.. which soviet country famously uses an acronym? right the DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik - German Democratic Republic) aka East Germany - now obviously acronyms are also just generally a thing we associeate with soviet countrys due to the Soviet Union also being called the USSR buuuut a connection could be there

now to what amounts my theory? idk! style analysis maybe! or maybe we could guess a bit of DRAAG lore through comparing it to hsitoric East Germany! Who knows!! gsgsgs anyway if anyone knows a lot abt other former USSR countrys please please please add to this and draw parralels to other countrys bc I'm pretty sure DRAAG is inspired by a lot of them
