!!! RUNE FACTORY: GUARDIANS OF AZUMA SPOILERS AHEAD !!!

SO, I just finished the main campaign and I have thoughts.

First and foremost, IT WAS GOOD !!! The characters were definitely the highlight of the entire story and this is the first time I’ve ever been unable to pick out one decreeable favorite from Rune factory games like, ever,,,,they’re all so babygirl, ur honor.

That being said though,,, I do have my issues. Like, two in particular and I wanna know if I’m just whooshing smth or others felt the same.

The black dragon rider:

The first main antagonist being the swap of the main character was a cool concept! It’s becoming a popular choice in recent years, and I thought it was interesting how they were childhood friends! Especially with the emotional plot point of them being betrothed. It’s not my cup of tea when it comes to tropes, but I found it interesting nevertheless.

But boy did I hATE how it wrapped up.

I’m not saying that having the option to save Subaru/Kaguya was bad—far from, actually. What I AM saying is that how they just,,, “oh it was just black dragon was making you do all those horrible things” was. It felt like SUUUUUCH a spit in the face to all the building and exposition they did for the black dragon up to that point. They emphasized the fact the black dragon wasn’t evil and simply doing what it thought was best for the region and the continuation of life… and then blamed the dragon for why Kaguya/Subaru was spreading blight. Technically, not wrong. But maybe it was an issue of translation? They always made it sound like it was an act of evil and ehhhhh, I dunno man. Admittedly, I haven’t fullydone their bond event so maybe it addresses that there? But the fact you gotta go through their bond event in that hypothetical is in poor taste imo. Overall, not a huge issue, but it has kept me from fully exploring their personality through the bond events bc it irritates me how all the other characters try to write their actions off as an issue of them not having autonomy (ESPECIALLY the main character.) I would have preferred they tackle it from a more grey angle. Kaguya/Subaru seeing all the despair their blight caused and the main character trying to assure them that they were working in the best interest for the people, but in a misguided fashion. Not because the black dragon was “controlling” them.

Clarice:

Oh boy. I don’t even know where to start here. I don’t mind the idea of the Sech Empire still floating around, I think it demonstrates just how influential they were event after all the time since RF4. What I DO have an issue with is how the game devs seemed to like, strong arm her into being a marriage candidate. Having her be the lost Princess to the Sech empire felt, stupid? Like, as nicely as I can put that. They wanted to make her scary but not that scary bc then players may not want to explore her personality. The wooly scene felt fanfic-y to me and that’s saying smth bc I’m all for that fanfic shit usually. And the twist wih her knowing she was under Kamurosaki’s curse could have worked IF she was suPOOSED to be an unredeemable villain. Bro he SLAUGHTERED LIKE, ALMOST ALL YOUR PEOPLE ??? HELLO ??? “His curse got me this far, it’s only bc of him I can provide for my people” HE KILLED ALMOST ALL OF THEM ??? We get told over and over again how bad this guy is (so bad he has to die in the plot instead of getting a chance at redemption) and the girl we’re supposed to be sympathetic for not over overlooks all his transgressions, but continues WILLINGLY in a pact with him for what I assume was at least years.

I think she would have been so much better if she was just some person that grew up hearing stories about how great Tagensanbach (I tHIIIINK THATS HOW YOU SPELL THAT ??) was so great back when it was the Sech empire and wanted to claim Azuma for the rebirth. No princess title, no stupid curse plot point (have her like, form a pact with him instead, give her the authority) and no redemption. She’s not in it for her people, she’s not in it for the family she’s lost. She’s so hyper propagandized she sees her fellow nation as the only important thing and is willing to die for it.

Oh and KAMUROSAKI SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MARRIAGE CANDIDATE!!!! “But you just spent all this post complaining about how the writing sometimes conflicts good and evil and—“ I DID !!! THAT DOESNT MEAN I DONT WANNA SMOOCH THAT MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE LOOKIN ASS !!!!

I don’t understand why so many people have stopped supporting Palestine...

Right now, we are sleeping in the streets just to reach American aid. Our lives are in serious danger, surrounded by tanks, all for a bag of flour or some lentils to feed our families.

Hey guys, I wanted to tell you about the Ihyaa' initiative. My friend Mohammed Ayesh, who's been our vetter on the ground in Ghazzah for the last year or so, wants to make a space and provide resources for University students to complete their studies in a proper learning environment, along with providing food parcels, stationary, and other essentials. You may have heard of the Isnad initiative! It's very similar to the Ihyaa' initiative but it's located elsewhere. They had to find the right room to use as a classroom for the Ihyaa' initiative and they're going to be paying rent of 2000$ for it. Mohammed Ayesh has informed me that starting on Monday this rent will begin.

University students are the foundation of a better and rebuilt Ghazzah! If you want to help Ghazzah rebuild, this is one of the first steps you can start assisting with.
