Cornel West, a professor at Union Theological Seminary and & professor emeritus at Princeton University, spoke at an event Fordham’s American Studies program hosted on April 5th.

“To be educated is to be a certain kind of compassionate, courageous person willing to wonder with a sense of awe and raise questions that are unsettling...I know that at its best that is what Fordham is about.”

Come join OMA as we celebrate LGBT Week of Awareness the week of April 11th through April 15th. We will be hosting a screening of Gun Hill Road on both campuses, Monday 11th @LC McMahon 205/06 at 4pm and Wednesday April 13th Freeman 103 at 5:30. On Thursday will be hosting a dialogue about Steven Universe in the South Lounge of Lincoln Center at 12pm and at Rose Hill it will be in McGinley 236 at 2:30pm. Then on the 15th OMA will be tabling for the Day of Silence.

Joseph McGowan was a former Dean of Student Affairs here at Fordham (he started here in 1969), and was instrumental in the institution of the African American Studies Department. He believed there was something inherently different and good about Fordham. As he once stated, “I will forever love Fordham University and celebrate its Catholic culture and ethos...It came down to this DNA, it’s in the Fordham genome, which is the recognition of the intrinsic value of every person.”
