“Levi and I found a place outside of Diagon.” She didn’t specify where–it was nice to have a place that not everyone knew about. “The manor just started feeling suffocating, so I figured it was time to leave…Where are thinking about going?”

Orion arched an eyebrow at that. Perhaps he had been gone far too long to remember some things such as that. Last he remembered they had just started dating. “How’s that going?” he asked with a smile before nodding, “I know how you feel. And I’m not quite sure just yet. Maybe stay in Camden. Or somewhere closer to the Ministry.”

Rhea was grateful that Orion didn’t comment on her moving away from him, because she wasn’t sure she’d be able to explain the rush of feelings the small action had produced. Rhea paused when she heard Orion’s question,reminding herself that although she wanted to trust him, she couldn’t go giving away all her secrets just yet. “I had to get my life on track. This seemed like the best way to do it/” She answered, hoping that the vague answer was enough for him.

Orion couldn’t help but notice as Rhea paused. Had he pushed her too far today with his questions and forwardness? At least, that was what he wondered, and gladly took her vague answer without egging on further. Nodding, he gave a smile, “At least you did it. My parents wanted me to do the same. But I couldn’t. Well...not yet, anyway.”

It wasn’t that Rose had tried to become a recluse, between working at her dad and Uncle’s shop, getting back into Quidditch shape, and working on mastering some new potions Rose hadn’t been getting much socialising done. She hadn’t planned on talking to anyone, other than the shopkeeper down Knockturn Alley who would sell her rare and difficult to get Potions ingredients, but it seemed the universe had other plans. She had been tucking a brown parcel into her bag when she heard a voice and stopped dead in her tracks. Blushing, Rose looked up at Orion and gave him a small smile. “Hi… long time no see.”

Watching as Rose blushed, Orion couldn’t help but think back on their last conversation. He supposed he had been a bit harsh; yet then again, he was mourning his sister at that time. Still was. And, of course, Rose meant too much to Orion to allow himself to hurt her. Clearing his throat, Orion gave a small nod, “Far too long, if you ask me.” A small smile came to his lips to match hers, “What are you doing down here?”

She couldn’t hide her surprise at feeling his hand touch hers, her gaze lingering on their hands for just a second before she slid her hand away. As much as she was enjoying Orion’s presence, she didn’t want to let all her hard work fall victim to her childish feelings. “Walking won’t be a problem.” Although Rhea normally preferred to apparate, not seeing the point in having magic if she wasn’t going to use it, however a few extra moments with Orion might not go entirely unappreciated. 

Feeling Rhea’s hand slip from his own, Orion knew his instincts to not get ahead of himself were correct. He kept that in the back of his mind as he smiled towards her while walking along. “Tell me something, Rhea. How come you wanted to work for the Ministry?”

Rhea had to cover her face, in order to hide the blush colouring her cheeks. It was like she was some pathetic child,  blushing and giggling at a few compliments. As ridiculous as she felt, Rhea let herself imagine a future where she let Orion in and to her shock, it left her with an unfamiliar, warm feeling. As much as she hated what she was feeling, Rhea couldn’t bring herself to push him away. Instead she returned his smile and nodded, a little too eagerly for her liking and said, “that sounds lovely.”

While Orion couldn’t help but notice the effect he had on Rhea, he didn’t let it get to his head. In order for their partnership to work, he knew he had to build trust. Luckily, so far it was going well. He just had to make sure it kept that same trajectory. And he had to admit: Orion liked making Rhea blush. Grinning, he went to take her hand and lead her out, “Brilliant. It’s not too far from here if you don’t mind walking. I’m rather fond of it.”

“I understand.” Audelia lifted her hand to rest it gently on his arm, offering comfort as she gave him a sympathetic smile. “I’ve been working a lot, in all honesty. I know it hardly seems exciting. Though I did take a few days off to spend with my father; he keeps complaining I’ve grown up too quick.” She shook her head with a fond smile, beyond glad that she still had her father around.

Orion could only nod. Of course Audelia understood. Even though they had both lost a family member, the Slytherin boy still couldn’t imagine how it felt to lose a parent. He tried shaking away the thoughts. Thinking back on Ophelia never ended well for him. “Perhaps you have. Honestly, feels like we all have,” he gave a small smile, “Did you go anywhere special?”

“Really? That was almost too easy.” Rhea said, her words accompanied by a genuine laugh. One that surprised even herself. “Don’t worry, no one keeps track of me here. I’m basically my own boss.” It was one of the things Rhea liked best about her job, she had come to despise being ordered around by people who thought they were better than her just because they were older. “I haven’t gone anywhere other than the Leaky Cauldron in ages, so I’d be more than happy to be introduced to someplace new.”

“Well it would be almost too easy with such a pretty girl - sorry, lady, - saying such words,” Orion gave a small laugh as well. It was nice to hear hers. A smile spread on his lips, “How lovely,” he said genuinely, then began to wonder for a moment what that would be like; manage own time; be himself. However, the thought quickly faded away. “There’ the Hopping Pot and it has a little outside market beside it.”

Seeing his grin and playful bow, Rhea couldn’t fight off the smile, and she had to admit that surprised her. “I suppose you’ll just have to wait and see.” She replied, giving her a sultry smile. “Ugh, I forgot about that.” She muttered to herself, remembering the stack of papers. “You know what? Screw it.” Rhea waved her wand and the letters disappeared. She would deal with them another day. “Are you still up for that drink?”

A smile from Rhea was well worth being playful and perhaps making a fool of himself all at the same time. And the tease made it even more so. “Now you’re making me anxious,” Orion teased back. However, he watched as all of the papers disappeared and arched a brow, “Just as long as I’m not getting you into heat for leaving early,” he chuckled nodding, “Very much so. Do you have any place you like to go?”

Both options sounded equally tempting to Rhea, but given she was still at work she wasn’t likely to agree to either . As with most things with Rhea, it would take a bit of effort on Orion’s part before she really let her guard down. Rhea raised an eyebrow at him, hiding a smirk. “I don’t know where you get your ideas from, Orion. I’m a lady, and I don’t believe your not talking while I’m still on the clock is very ladylike at all.”

With Rhea’s raised eyebrow, hinting at the sight audacity for both of the options he put forward, Orion couldn’t help but chuckle.  It just seemed much easier to do so with Rhea considering that thy both were looking to partner soon, and that meant he needed her best on his side, or at least a little more trusting. And so far, so good. Grinning, Orion shrugged, “Well, my lady,” he smirked, giving a playful bow, “What happens off the clock?” he ave a small wink before shaking his head, “Speaking of which, weren’t you needing to finish up something? Or have I been stalling you?”

Rhea did have a way of getting through the days when she thought work would never end. Whenever someone treated her with disrespect, she tried to come up with the most creative ways of exacting her revenge when she finally had the power she deserved. But such things were hardly appropriate to discuss at the ministry, though she suspected Orion might not be as horrified at her thoughts as other people often were. “Unfortunately not,” Rhea told him with a sweet smile. “We’ll have to come up with something together.” In her words, there was just a hint of evil lurking.

As Rhea said that there wasn’t anything she really did to keep away the monotony, Orion feigned a disappointed look playfully. Although he had to imagine with how she thought, there was bound to be things brewing in her brilliant mind constantly. Smirking, Orion chuckled, “Now are we talking something to the degree of our last conversation, or more so of my why with a bit of ‘not-talking’?”

“Almost.” Audelia offered a gentle smile at his joke, glad to see him in a good mood. It had taken her a long time before being able to joke after her mother’s death, and she was glad to see that Orion handling things better than she had. He didn’t deserve to  hold onto that hurt, but she would understand completely if he did. “I’ve been well. And yourself?” 

Orion was glad to see her smile. With everything that had happened, at least the comfort of friends was something he could depend on for a little bit. And Audelia was always a comfort to have around. “I’ve been...managing.” That was probably the best word for it all, “But what are you up to?”

“No, they all wore masks or had scarves covering their faces.” Briony’s hands shook as she quickly tied her own scarf safely around her neck once more. She hated exposing the scar. It felt even worse to do so in the place that she had received it. “I’m so sorry about Ophelia, Orion. She was a sweet girl. How are you doing?”

Orion nodded. He figured just as much from how they seemed to attack them all. It was only fitting. Even so, he felt terrible as he watched Briony’s hands shake. “Hey...you all right?” At her condolences, however, Orion grew quiet and gulped, “I’m as good as I can be, I suppose. Still miss her terribly. Sometimes I feel like it’s all just a bad dream and it’ll be over soon.”

Atalia wanted to roll her eyes at the name, but found herself smiling softly instead. As much as she wanted to hate the pet-names and the nick names, she’d come to realize they were only terms of endearment that she’d learned to accept. “No, I…I’ve actually moved out. The manor was a bit too suffocating. What about you?”

At her smile, Orion chuckled internally. They had always called each other pet names. Yet he supposed now with how everything stood and their enviornmant, it was odd since it was no longer in school. Even so, Orion smiled, “Where are you living then? I came back home after what happened. Planning on getting a place of my own soon.’

Alix made it a point to avoid Knockturn Alley when she could help it. The whole street gave her the heebie-jeebies and the attack just provided more evidence that the whole street was bad news. Unfortunately a customer request that she was unable to fill through her usual channels forced her to make a visit. She was just on her way out, parcel tucked neatly under her arm when someone stopped directly in front of you. Looking up she let out a nervous chuckle. “But you didn’t and that’s what counts.”

“I suppose so,” Orion replied with a small chuckle. While Alix’s face was familiar, he wasn’t sure where he had seen it. Perhaps around the shop of Diagon Alley? Either way, he decided that to best not be suspicious of anything, he would always put on a friendly face. Smiling, the Slytherin put out his hand, “Name’s Orion.”

Briony hesitated for a moment, wondering if it would be best to not say anything about her injuries. His sister had died. All other wounds seemed pathetically minor compared to that. But she still found her hands tugging at the fabric of the scarf, undoing the careful knot. Her name had been published in the paper as one of the injured. All it would take would be a quick check for him to realize she had lied to him. And Briony was tired of lying. She pulled it away just long enough for him to see the ugly pink scar that crossed her neck before covering it back up again. “Chryson and I weren’t able to hide before a couple of them caught up to us.”

Orion watched as he saw Briony become, what he assumed was, nervous while she tugged on her scarf. Either things were much worse than she would tell him or that, like many others, they realized that they were talking to someone who had lost a sibling in the crossfire. Even so, his eyes trailed to the scar, gulping, “I’m sorry, Briony... did you happen to see any of their faces?”

“Glad to hear you understand.” She responded, giving him a small smirk. Rhea still couldn’t quite work out whether or not Orion was worth her trust, but she was starting to hope she could, and Rhea didn’t know what to think of that. “Great. Would you like to see the secret life of a mailroom clerk? Fair warning, it’s more boring than it sounds.”

“Of course,” Orion said returning her smirk slightly, “I think we all have one reason or another at some point in our lives to do so.” Although for him, and just as he assumed for Rhea, that was a constant part of his life. He did hope, however, that she would come around to trusting him - especially given their plans. A wide grin began to spread on his lips, “I would love to. But I have to imagine there’s some way you keep it from getting monotonous.”

“That would be a smart idea.” But not very likely to happen. The idea of any sort of vaguely muggle thing making its way into Knockturn was laughable. There was no way it would be allowed to remain for any sort of time. “I - It’s going to sound silly but I just… I needed to face this place again. To see if it would help…”

Orion gave a small shrug with a grin. Really, he was just trying to come up with a reason for almost running - or rather, tumbling - into Briony and hoped he hadn’t thrown her off guard. Although, Knockturn was probably already doing so because of the attacks. He nodded at her words, gulping, “I know what you mean... Did you get hurt at all?”
