❝    i’m here for kate.   ❞     and he wouldn’t leave until he knew where she was.  he was good at laying low.  he already had a place to stay  ..   (  well,  hide.  )                  and even if someone contacted the fbi?  the orphans were thought to be dead.  both of them.   it’d take them a while to catch on and catch him.  so all in all,  he was confident in his chances of getting away with being back in beacon hills.   it seemed like the town had more things to worry about anyway,  tragedy after tragedy striking,  the blood he shed years before almost forgotten.  but he doubts the girl in front of him had forgotten.  how could she?   he had taken lives of her pack.   ❝   she took violet away from me.                    so i have a plan.   i doubt any of you will be missing a monster like her.  think of me going after her as a favor more than anything.  ❞

❝       ah       ,      dramatic      .      NOT   SURPRISED      .       ❞        eyes   roll   as    brown   eyes   look   around        .         why   should    she   act    as   if    she’s   never   seen   it   before       ?       she   does   not   need   to    when   it’s   all    she’s   seen   from   humans      .     ironic      ,     isn’t    it        ?      she’s    been   one   too       ,       once        .      she   still   stays   silent   as   she   knows   that   words   have   meaning      ,       and    that    not   all    of   them   are   of    great   wonder        .

❝    there’s no nondramatic way to approach this.   ❞     his head is held high.  it usually was,  reasons and motivations as strong as they ever would be.  it was dumb to even consider going after kate argent.  he had almost met his end with the berserkers once before.  (  how the hell did he survive that?  )   but doing nothing about violet’s death felt wrong.    what was the best thing to do in his situation,  anyway?  does one live for the one they love or die for them?   ❝   do you have a better idea?               didn’t think so.   ❞

     confusion hits the boy like a train.  kate argent?  his mind races with various tales of the mystery woman …phrases like psychotic bitch thrown around once or twice.  it didn’t make any sense.  what did he want from kate?  liam had little time to process before the second jab.  blue eyes turn to gold at garrett’s remark.  this had    to be some kind of cosmic joke, a test from the universe in an attempt shake him.  he wouldn’t break.

     ‘     shut up.     ’  not his best comeback but all liam could manage in the moment.  he’s angry, mostly with himself, for letting garrett under his skin.  ‘     –––––  even if i knew where to find kate, why should i help you?     ’

     he was stupid to think this was over.  was it too much to ask for a semi-normal senior year of high school? scott will want to know about this.  no.  don’t bother him.  ‘     just leave me the hell alone.     ’

he watches the boy’s eyes turn blue,  and as they do,  a smirk forms on his face.  garrett has always been smug,  taking pride in the reactions he got from other people.  things with liam were no different.  in fact,  their history made it even easier for him to be amused.  ❝   want me to shut up,  liam?  kill me then.  shut me up yourself.  ❞  

it was a cocky enough request made to someone who was above killing,  unlike him.  broad arms are crossed over his chest.  ❝   i just figured you would because we’re old friends.  i mean,  i did consider us to be friends.  sure,  a few lies were told..  but come on,  liam.  didn’t you enjoy our movie nights?  i did.   ❞     he was messing with him.  that much was obvious.  though garrett did occasionally enjoy himself when around liam and mason,  he never let that get in the way of the reason why he and violet were there.   no attachments,  no problem.   ❝   she took violet away from me.  she deserves to die.                    i might even die in the process.  wouldn’t you want to see that?  ❞

❝  surprisingly,   ❞     she repeats with a scoff,   her head shakes,     hands placed on her hips.      ❝   it shouldn’t be surprising by now.       i never go out there worried that i’m not going to come back.     you shouldn’t worry about it either.   ❞        but she knows why he does,    and she appreciates it.      there’s power in being desired by another,      and that’s why she never hides just how much she cares about him     (     though she is still selfish in nature,      she has told herself over and over that she would let him burn if it meant her own survival    ——-     but could she really do that if the time came,    or would she realize he meant more to her than she means to herself?    )         ❝   out there,    when i wasn’t with you,    i was alone,    ❞      she points out.     and it matters to her that she was able to accomplish what she did all  on her own.    it makes her feel powerful and it fuels her strength.    she needs people to know that on her own,    she’s just as strong as she is with another,     but he’s right.     they are a team,    and if she dies,    he’s left on his own.     she doesn’t want that for either of them.       ❝    i don’t forget it.      when we’re together,    no one forgets that we’re a team,   ❞      she reminds,     a smirk finally tugging at her lips as she moves her hand to rest against his neck.      ❝   you still got me.     trust me when i say i can handle it.   ❞       she’s not leaving him behind.     her eyes roll,    head shaking as she pulls away.      ❝   i usually choke them from behind when they’re unsuspecting.     that scream is always my favorite   ——   until you can’t hear it anymore.   ❞        choking them with a thermal cut wire,   the one she wears around her neck at all times,    it’s her go to.       her stealth always works in her favor.      ❝    these creatures really think they’re smarter  than us,    don’t they?   ❞      it’s laughable to her,      so much so that she forgets that sometimes,     they are.

❝   is me worrying such a bad thing?   it’s not like i breathe down your neck or anything.  i give you your space.   ❞     critique and worry was how he showed he cared.  unless it was with his LAST dying breath,  he would not tell her that he loved her,  although he always had and always would.  it’s one of those things that she had to have known without being told.  one of the many traits garrett admired in violet was just how fiercely independent she was.  she didn’t act like she needed anyone.  she was unapologetic.  they both were.  it’s why they made such a good team.  and when it came down to it,  he wouldn’t want to be paired with anyone else at all.  it was her or no one.     ❝   yeah,  well.              i think you’re well aware of just how bad ass you are.   ❞     her gentle touch on his neck contrasted with both of their natures,   once again something unspoken.  he appreciates it more than he’d ever let on.   ❝   you know i trust you.  it’s them i don’t trust.  ❞   both had their signature weapons,   hers,  though,  being more unique than his..                     yet another thing he admired.   though there was pride taken in each swing of his dagger.   many chose guns as their weapons,  but stabbing?  it was intimate.  riskier,  sure,  but always worth it in the end.   ❝   nothing beats that first time though.  that rush of power you never knew you had.  nothing made sense to me before that.  everything was clear after.  i knew what i was meant to do.   ❞     he smirks,   a low laugh following.  violet knew more than he did when it came to the supernatural.  sure,  he held that vendetta for his parents  (  and always would..  )  but he hadn’t learned everything quite yet.  all he knew was that there was nothing standing between him and his revenge.   and she felt the same way,   he knew that.

❝    really?     anger feels like what’s going to kill me somedays,   ❞       he scoffs,      thinking back to the way his brother’s death was handled.     it wasn’t just in the public eye,     but how it was at home   —–    how his parents brushed the death of his brother off as if they could easily move past it     (    he still doesn’t want to believe that was true.    )       that anger has only boiled over now,      jealousy fueling it as he looks at people like liam.      an opponent,     his competition   —–    the very person who has held him back from being what his father so badly wants from him    (    success,     power.      how is it fair that someone with supernatural abilities has kept him from that?    )           ❝   but maybe you’re right.       feels like i can take it a hell of a long way right now.   ❞       he is being fueled by two emotions:      ANGER and fear.

❝   it can get you killed..               but only if you get reckless.   you’re smart,  aren’t you?   ❞     funny he said that.   sometimes garrett grew so arrogant that he,  too,  did reckless things.   death wasn’t hard for people like them.  dealing with humans was one thing.  but the supernatural?  they’d always have an advantage.  ❝   you gotta look at it as your power.  use it.  any fight with a werewolf is going to be unfair so you need all you can get.   ❞     he wasn’t sure what motivated the younger boy,  and he wasn’t going to pry.  but whatever pain he was holding onto,  whatever hurt that drove him to do something instead of waiting in the shadows in fear?  he admired and recognized it.   ❝   i’m gonna give you some advice though.  take the selfish approach.  align yourself with others but don’t let them get you killed.  if we were ambushed right now,   i’d save my own ass.  and i expect you to do the same.  ❞

          IT’S STRANGE HOW A PERSON can immediately take you back to a certain time in your life.  it’s true, only three short years had passed since they last met but so much had changed.  liam was no longer that terrifed kid stuck in a well.  yet here the boy stood, stomach in knots, all because of a familiar face.  ‘     …what the hell are you doing back here, garrett?     ’

he wonders.   did the other boy ever actually enjoy the   ‘   friendship   ’   he offered during their short time together?  could he even call him a boy now?   garrett couldn’t imagine that it meant too much.  but that was only because he had never felt that loss with anyone aside from violet.   violet left a hole.  but the others?  he never let them in.  there was no room for pain when someone wasn’t let in.   ❝   you know why i’m here.   i’ve been looking for kate.   ❞     broad arms are crossed over his chest.   liam still intrigued him.   ❝   you look all grown up.   i’m impressed.   ❞
