Nearly a decade after snagging this URL for our future dog, I am so so excited to share that my wife and I will indeed be bringing home a besnouted beast of our very own: meet June (aka Junie, Junebug, Juniper, or Juneberry JungleJuice.) She’s a lap lurcher (half Italian greyhound and half Shetland sheepdog) who has contributed some crucial genetic diversity to companion breeding programs and will be retiring in luxury in our home at the age of four! She’ll be an active companion, and we’re hoping to get her into scentwork for foraging and invasive species detection for community science projects.
A review of our girl from a trainer friend:
“June is sweetness and light in a teeny lil sunbeam package. But she’s also got some spice… but like cinnamon sugar as opposed to cayenne. She has an endearing way of convincing you that any trouble is good trouble and crimes are most certainly legal.
She adores a good belly rub, and is adept at positioning herself at the intersection of scritchy fingers and comfort (see couch cushion photo for evidence).
She was understandably put out when I first arrived, making the threat known by loudly alerting her humans to a dangerous intruder. Apparently the desired remedy was sitting down, holding her snoot in my hands and 3 cheerios. This is the price of her friendship. She’s been largely silent since, except when I was not dispensing treats fast enough during a little training game.
She’s athletic and spry, leaping barriers with ease and out lapping her housemates in the yard. She’s a fair but firm momma to her babies, reminding them that kicking the stuffing out of your sibling is not a sanctioned sport but unlike most of the retrievers I’ve known who largely check out once babies have teeth… she’s still happily playing with and nursing her babies at 7 1/2 weeks.
She is handler soft in the way that is lovely and makes her easy to manage. She seems very environmentally confident (and sorta terrifies me as she leaps into her puppy pen with utter precision avoiding toys and tots).
If she were a fictional character, she would be Anne of Green Gables!”
I’m so delighted that we’ll be living with this zesty little creature for the foreseeable future and can’t wait to spam you all with pics of her wonderful snoot!

He won't roll over on command, but he does semi-regularly sleep on his back!

Please tell me he won't grow out of sleeping on his back
#I'd say he does so slightly less often than when he was a puppy. but it's still a fairly common behavior#dead horse is just more in right now#hi william!! he's looking so handsome
