Somewhere, deep down, I have a burning hope for better. When I close my eyes, I can see something better.
ID: photo of an Eastern Kingbird singing with a paper speech bubble overlaid beside its beak reading Never forget that it's not normal for everyone to be this sick. And don't let anyone make you believe there's nothing we can do about it.
Normalizing masking can change everything.

If you've ever told a person who's had to be bedbound for a period of time that you wish you could "just stay in bed", DO IT.
Stay in bed. For days. But don't get up if someone needs you to, or you get bored, or you get antsy. Don't do anything other than rest. Just lie in your bed, whether you need to get stuff done around the house or socialize or anything else "productive". You'll have to cancel on people, you'll disappoint them, they won't understand.
And if you're thinking, "well, i CAN'T just be in bed. There's stuff that has to be done - I have plans", maybe ask yourself why you assumed a disabled person doesn't have plans or things to do or desires.

Some of the knitted and tatted jewelry I've been working on. I'm really proud of the knitted heart beads. They're reversible and have an additional surprise color on the back of each heart. So you have quite a few ways you could actually wear them.
Image description: several pics of a multicolor chevron background with a small brown box on top. In each photo the box holds a different pair of handmade earrings. More info in alt text.

Using a respirator as a harm reduction tool is, former and current smokers wearing high quality respirators as much as they can because smoking or having smoked greatly increases your risk for covid and long covid.
Using a respirator as a harm reduction tool is not, people kind of wearing a mask when they can't get out of it or just when they feel like it.

Research into intersex medicalization is exhausting but its also kind of hilarious what people can get away with by just saying "and I don't like that"
Paraphrasing hard but John Money was essentially like "adult hermaphrodites are usually comfortable with their assigned gender despite their physical bodies not matching according to criteria we just made up and it personally freaks me out that their psychology is abnormal (they should all hate themselves) and because of that one informed consent law we can't as easily manipulate adults to change anymore... but babies can't talk back. Let's make it easier for the parents of these freaks to bond with them" and 70 years later doctors are still insisting they do these surgeries to help the intersex person. It's all insane bullshit and to think I had an endocrinologist that I was sent to by a nonbinary doctor who denied me a gender affirming endocrinologist telling me John Money's bullshit as if it's provable scientific fact. The whole male brain/female brain and male hormones/female hormones is based off of one pedo eugenicist monster who wanted to erase all sexual and gender ambiguity no matter how many people kill themselves bc of his experiments

I had this machine knit scarf for a really long time but never used it even though I loved the colors and fiber content, so I decided to unravel it to use for something else. Great idea in theory lolololol. Yeah the fiber was painfully small so after I unraveled it I busted out my drop spindle and respun the threads into a more reasonable yarn size. I'm pretty happy with the finished results, James remains unimpressed, but he is a very two dimensional man.
Image Description:
Top right - A colorful orange, pink, yellow, and white striped knit scarf is laying on a wooden table in the process of being unraveled.
Top left - A drop spindle and the now fully disassembled scarf are laying on the wooden table. The colorful threads are arranged in small balls by shade.
Bottom right- A close up detail shot of some of the finished yarn. It is two different color strands spun together and variegated.
Bottom left- A white arm is extended out holding four finished hanks of the previously mentioned yarn. In the background a larger than life cutout of James Dean looks... unimpressed.

I think it's important to remember with things like the Chevron decision coming down that one of the main ways that people lose housing is because of disabilities and illness. Being unable to work or losing time at work due to illnesses can massively destabilize your housing. Everything is connected. Preventing the spread of COVID protects your entire community.

I think I need to get this off my chest before I start producing more art regularly. The world is fucked up, but it doesn’t have to be. It would be nice if in a pandemic we can continue looking out for one another instead of the ignorance many opt for now.
It really hurts to see what people prioritized over the years.
Include disabled people in your activism, wear a mask to keep yourself safe, and the people you love safe. The world has changed, and that’s okay, we can’t move forward if we don’t work together.

Cis woman: "if a man harasses me ill just tell him I have a penis so he'll leave me alone"
Trans people: "that's a terrible idea don't do that please"
Meanwhile..
Trans people: "I tell people i'm intersex so people won't know I'm trans"
Intersex people: "that's a terrible idea don't do that please"
Trans people: "wtf this is transphobic people should have the right to protect themselves from being hate crimed what is wrong with you? You just want trans people to be harassed and murdered don't you"
Intersex people: 🤦🏻♂️
Lying about being part of a different minority group to hide your actual minority status will never protect you from bigotry. Like congrats now you made yourself a target of transphobia AND intersexism. Or in the first case a target of misogyny AND transphobia.
Half the trans people I've seen do this in person are literally in no danger and just say it to explain why they don't pass to random ass people who are posing no threat to them. Can y'all like shut up?

I see you disabled people who don't know your family medical history because your family members couldn't/wouldn't/weren't allowed to go to the doctor and never got diagnosed, or don't know your family.
I see you disabled people who didn't know you were disabled growing up, physically or mentally, maybe because your parents didn't have insurance and couldn't afford it/wouldn't take you seriously/didn't think it was a problem because they had it/doctors couldn't figure it out.
I see you disabled people who have bouts of an issue that you grew up with, that are/were infrequent enough that you never really thought about it and dealt with it on your own, and when you have one in front of people who weren't medically neglected, you wonder why they look so horrified as you describe it.
I see you disabled people who didn't/haven't had any amount of care or accommodation for their disability since it started, because you couldn't get diagnosed.
I see you disabled people who grew up thinking everyone had the same problem as you and that it was normal and so you accepted it, because you didn't understand how the human body worked and had no real frame of reference nor the language to ask for help, or the people around you saw it and just ignored it.
I see you disabled people only now understanding that what you experience is abnormal, and that there are things that can be done to help it, make it easier, or at least help you understand yourself better.
I see you disabled people that will never be able to get diagnosed or get the help you need, whether from being poor, lacking insurance, or any number of reasons.
This shit is hard, and there are people who will never quite understand your struggles. It doesn't seem to get talked about as much, but I wish it was. Please know I love you, and you aren't alone.

I don't give a shit if a cis bisexual woman brings her boyfriend to pride. I do however, care whether or not all of y'all's brought your respirators to wear. The COVID pandemic is ongoing, airborne, and disproportionately affects the queer community ESPECIALLY negatively racialized members of the queer community.

Allowing any random person to legally compel you to remove a medical mask, whether you’re in private or in public, is an egregious abuse of power! North Carolina wants to make it legal for police to make you remove your mask.
North Carolinians should be allowed to wear masks both to stop the spread of disease and to protect their own health!
sign the petition you do not need to live in North Carolina
