What really ticks me off when talking about ai is when people are like "it's unavoidable" or "you'll have to learn to use it someday" or "its going to be part of the future" like no it's plenty avoidable actually if you have a spine stronger than a dandelion. You simply say "no" and continue to use your own goddamn brain.

filtering off the angst tag on ao3 does some serious damage in fic amount..

the before & after of filtering the tag is wild ngl

it probably wouldve been a bigger difference if i didnt also filter out tags that i always filter out no matter what but 🤷‍♂️

Outsiders SMP Rant

I recently started writing a fic called “The Endless Cycle” on AO3 and this fic is aimed to stay true to the lore of Outsiders while still being able to tell an original story, and while planning this, I found something that I don’t think anyone is talking about and it’s driving me CRAZY.

What I’m talking about are the chips that are implanted in the Outsider’s heads. I think everybody knows that they’re the reason the Outsider’s had amnesia and was the way the Watchers could control what memories the Outsider’s received about their past, but nobody talks about the other things they could do. 

Remember when the lever was pulled? It’s implied that Squidney was mind-controlled to lead Apo and Rasbi to the lever (That book in the library Maze literally said “It was as if something had a control on her” and it had Squidney’s goggles in the same chest) (And also, side tangent, is nobody talking about the fact that Squidney’s remains were stuffed in a chest for the Outsiders to find?). And Magic’s ending animation where her father simply pushed a button and she was knocked out within seconds? The Watchers could literally mind control the Outsiders and nobody’s talking about it?! Think of the potential! Think of the angst! 

And what happens after the STARR series ends? Do the contestants just have a chip in their head that can knock them out or mind control them at any moment? Does STARR even do surgeries to remove them? 

I’ve been scanning AO3 and I’m surprised that nobody’s written anything about this. I’ve seen a few fics relating to the memory part of the chips but nothing else. This is probably the best tool available in the Outsiders story and I’m sad that nobody’s taking advantage of it. 

Of course, it’s never confirmed that the chips were the reason why Squidney was acting weird or why Magic suddenly collapsed when her father pressed that one button on that control panel, but it’s heavily implied and there’s nothing else that I could think of that could possibly be the reason for all this. 

Like I said, I’ve been writing a fic that utilizes these chips, but I don’t want to claim the idea for myself. There are basically endless possibilities with this, and it would be amazing if people used it to their advantage. 

(Also, a note on “The Endless Cycle” fic. If you read it now, there’s basically nothing about the chips and that’s because I’m not utilizing them until the sequel lol)
