I’ve been on a big of a Sachin + Babi kick after seeing a co-worker in a mesh skirt of theirs. I almost didn’t believe it was S + B, until Googling recent collections, because it was so unexpectedly sporty, but lo and behold this range from Fall/Winter 2015.

Like lots of ready-to-wear, when you boil the collection down in the end, there are lots of wearable pieces that can satisfy the more mature customer, who can actually afford to buy the clothes. However, it’s the fabric that really makes these garments stick out, balancing the classic silhouettes. Seeing the mesh fabric up close, it was very cool - not flimsy, basketball jersey mesh, fishnet, or even athleisure stuff, but more of a perforated foam.

There’s real juxtaposition of classic and modern here, and for once, it works. Even the model in the lookbook is serving some vintage model realness with her lovely poses. But instead of looking like a girl dressed in her mother’s clothes, as is often the case with RTW and trends in casting (which is a different topic...), she looks like a super heroine who appreciates some retro now and then. I love it.
