Kaito's name is like KAITO the vocaloid

HAHAHA You know, in truth I was never much of a Vocaloid girlie—I was there for the the original "World is Mine" drop (I was maybe 14 at the time I think?? oh god lmao), but didn't dive in to much else, so the Kaito birthday/name is an honest-to-God coincidence 😂

HOWEVER, I am genuinely astonished no one has yet called me out on the fact that Taka from Danganronpa also has 8/31 as his birthday, because that's the reason Kaito has 8/31 as his birthday. I just looked up Taka's birthday, and gave it to Kaito, since Ishimondo was a major reason why I created Kaito/Maki in the first place 😂😂 (Maki also has a birthday in June because of Mondo—I decided it would be going too far to ALSO give Maki the exact same birthday as Mondo, but it's not that far off 😂😂😂)

If you were ever given the opportunity, would you want to move to webtoon originals?

Honestly, proooooobably not? But that's based 100% on my own goals and circumstances more than anything else! I genuinely love making comics, but I don't think I would ever actually want it to be my job, both because I don't think I physically would have what it takes and because monetizing a hobby fundamentally changes your relationship to it in a way that I don't think I'd like 😅 I also have a day job that I genuinely enjoy, so I don't need to make money from my art, which is honestly really nice and lucky!! It means I'm not bound to anyone's deadlines but my own, which is great because I can be very disjointed in my work flow behind the scenes sometimes LMAO 😂

Hypothetically moving MBNSSB specifically to Originals would also necessitate rebooting the story if it were to happen now, and I would worry having to go all the way back to the beginning would kill my momentum, because I've been plagued by that before with past projects that no one has ever seen for that very reason ahahaha 😂🥲 I would never want to rule out the possibility of something changing in the future if I ever was lucky enough to consider an opportunity like that!! But for now, I'm genuinely so happy with the readers I have and the comic I've made thus far, so I'm fully content with sticking to the Canvas side of things! ❤️

I’m curious, do you have any voice canons that you thing the mbnssb characters would sound like?

I don't really, tbh! I'm not very good at imagining voices ahaha but just pulling from some of my favorite characters/lowkey (or highkey) sources of inspiration, I can see Kaito sounding like Tsukki from Haikyuu!! (Koki Uchiyama, who fun fact also voices Shigaraki in MHA and Mithrun in Dungeon Meshi lol); Karin sounding like Kagura from Gintama (Rie Kugimiya); and. I would be lying if I didn't admit that Maki likely sounds just as much like Yuji from JJK as he looks like him LMAO (Junya Enoki)

I was rereading mbnssb and realized how little kaito actually smiles, I think I remember maybe 3 panels? 😂

Ahahahaha that's a good catch! That's very deliberate; it's one of my little details of Kaito and Maki can be inverses of each other, with Maki's default response being to smile while Kaito is a much more frowny boy 😂

IS KARIN AROMANTIC OR AROACE? IDK IVE JUST BEEN SEEING THROUGHOUT THE COMIC THAT SHES VERY CLEARLY NOT INTERESTED IN ROMANCE SO IM JUST WONDERING AS A FAN (and an aroace individual :3)

So the 100% honest answer is I'm not actually sure LMAO 😂 I'm honestly so, so happy people do read her this way, especially since I'm aroace myself!!! But I can also admit that her relationship with relationships ended up developing in a direction I didn't initially expect, and I worry a bit about how much of the aroace-coding is actually her own character versus me inadvertently projecting in my writing ahahaha 😂 Honestly she probably will end up somewhere on that spectrum as she grows up and experiences more, but at this point in the comic, Karin herself would not recognize herself as/identify as aro/ace. No matter what, though, I do want to explore this particular question about her own sexuality a bit more in season 2, so that she has the space to develop towards whatever identity if any suits her best by the end of the story!
