Flowers

I will be with you in these flowers...

The windowsill bloomed with a brilliant display of purples and pinks, nestled safely between emerald green leaves that sprang up from the soil Amelia had so lovingly tended to there. For days she had been residing in the little cottage on the farm, gazing out the window at the creatures that roamed outside - dragons? Really? Her fever had long since subsided, and yet still she had only ventured out of the room once, to fetch the little sprigs of wildflowers that poked out of cracks between stones. The poor little things, she had cooed, carrying them so tenderly to the pots which she'd carefully prepared for the little things. A couple days of care and they'd flourished beautifully in her new homes, leaving her expression turning to fondness when she gazed at them from her bed.

The farm had offered her a much needed bit of rest, peace from the rest of the world. There was no armor, no great arches of the church, no poison flowers creeping in all around her. When the rain had fell she watched it through the window, keeping a sereneness wholly about her. The bed was comfortable, a feather thing with soft white sheets, and she found herself running her finger across the embroidery when she was bored.

Fleeting memories would cross her mind of a woman who sat there with her, offering her tender smiles and laughs as they spoke, but even now as she looked back upon it she could but only find it intermingled with images of another, scales possessed of a darker hue, and with eyes that shone like the full moon. A sad smile touched the lips of the girl, and she found herself looking out the window again, to the brilliant light that shone above the midnight meadows.

"Oh Od... what would you say if you were here...?" The thought came to her idly and she felt her eyes close shut, leaving crystalline tears dashing on delicate lashes like constellations, clinging mercilessly to her, never falling. Not once had she been able to gaze upon her since her death, a death which stole her away all too soon, leaving Amelia with only faint memories of the girl who had shared her life for so long. She could remember her touch on her skin when she had cried throughout the night, holding her close and comforting with hushed words that Amelia could only just understand, and yet left her with a comfort all the same. A comfort that when she opened her eyes and returned to the world, she would find her there, standing besides her and holding her up.

There was Nothing when she opened her eyes now, gazing upwards at the ceiling, soft words touching her lips as her hands gripped the sheets beneath her.

"... Can you do it...?"
