We're desensitized on so many levels and disconnected from our mother, earth. So let's connect. Let's get together and discover more elements of who we are globally and locally. Digital technology when used properly, is a great tool. I'm a flower growing in the concrete jungle. No story, no gimmick, no desire to change people unless they want to become better. Competition and survival of the fittest will never cease to exist. If you don't like something within society, or you're upset with certain leaders, politicians, artists, "role models" or icons, build a team and use technology to innovate and recolonize the minds of our/your people. Human beings on this earth have plenty to go around. However certain people just want more more and more. I don't like greed on any level. Poor, working poor, upper elite. We're so quick to tear each other down, demonize each other's beliefs and ideologies. Sound familiar? Any group of people who endured colonization were also demonized by those who came and conquered. "Look at the way these people live, living like savages." So our connection to the earth was demonized. Everything we were about was suddenly synonymous with evil, dirty, sacreligious, blasphemous, and asenine. Last year I had a dream. I was taking photos of @ayajanes in an all white room for her yoga portfolio. Suddenly a woman asks me, why you Harlem shaking over there? I didn't have an answer. I walk over to a platform and started breakdancing. A group of young kids dressed in all white were surrounding me. Thanks to #deenaclemente who has been my b-girl healing momma passing down her knowledge and dedicating the time to teach me what she knows. Women supporting women no matter what. I got you and I dedicate the next few posts to you and the girl who pushed me to pursue my vision TYNI. Now I'm practicing a core element of hip-hop right in our hometown! The Bronx Somedays I MC at @livefromunderny, other days I take the mic and rock out lyrical chrome flavor for your ear because I've embodied the title of MC thanks to all those who paved the way before me. Sometimes I play my piano, and sometimes I pluck the strings of my guitar and channel a higher power. Some days I choose to read and other days I listen to the stories and tales of my elders, my Boogie Down Bronx OG'S and the veterans who inspire me. Are you a singer? Are you a dancer? Are you a human being? I hope this post influences you to embrace the differences of all around, including yourself. Currently in Albany getting ready to speak my truth in front of thousands of people here to support the #fightfor15 for all workers especially my retail workers. Thanks to Dolly Martinez for always believing in me and pushing me to do better. I'm here with my family Retail Action Project, a team of organizers who are leading the battle in bringing justice to retail workers who are being scheduled poorly, taken advantage of, and even losing wages due to corporate greed. 42 million U.S. residents are employed in the retail sector. Why are we belittled and undermined? If it wasn't for retail and wholesale workers, the consumer market would be non existant. As a young Latina growing up in The Bronx, I began working at 16 years old within the only industry I'd get hired in, retail. There are people of all ages who maintain retail Jobs both part and full time. These people have bills and expenses, many with rent and families to support. Way too much time has passed without a raise and some people still feel like we are asking for too much. No worker should ever be forced to choose between buying groceries for the week, or buying a metro card to get to work. FOLKS AT THE TOP BETTER START EMPATHIZING BEFORE WE START RISING I know 15 isn't the final answer. It's still not enough. We've got construction workers who Earn 15 and have to support their families on their wages alone. We've gotta fight and it's sad because we deserve so much more than is given to us.
