Footnote to Youth Jose Garcia Villa The author wants us youth to be aware of what is happening in this generation because some of us youth are linked to this issue without even realizing what are the consequences we are up to. Marriage is sacred. Couple that encounter this kind of life changing stage must be ready for it’s responsibilities. You dont just marry if you want to because when you marry, there’s no turning back. Also the ideal age of marrying is never 17. You’re too young to know yourself and what is ready for marriage. Its is a footnote to the youth that when you marry, face the the future responsibilities. A 17-year-old named Dodong is so eager to marry Teang, his love. He wants to get his father’s permission of marrying. He feels that at 17 he is a grown man and is ready for the next important step in his life. When he told his father that he is to marry Teang and wants his blessing there’s a long silence that made everyone feel uncomfortable. His father asked if he should marry. His father doesnt want him to experience what he did back in the days. Dodong resented his father but his father had nothing to do but to give his consent. His wife is now in the stage of giving birth to their first but it didn’t just end like that but had 6 more children. They weren’t happy in this kind of living. Now the couple is full of regrets because of teenage pregnancy, early marriage and they are now suffering from poverty. They should’ve thought about marrying a hundred times. And for his 18 year old son asking his permission to marry Tena. He asked tha same question her father did. He doesn’t want him to make tha same mistake he did. Dodong realizes that he is dealing with youth and love and that they will triumph over this situation. He gave his consent feeling sad and sorry for his son Dodong is about to make a big decision by thinking of pursuing a marriage life. He is just a 17-year-old boy, and thinking he is old enough to marry just because of his physical features such as the muscles on his arms and mustache being apparent on his upper lip. He already had this aspects for a person to begin another chapter of his life. To surmise, Dodong’s family belong to the poverty line of the society. The story suggests that Dodong is no longer studying. Instead, he just works in the farm. His parents were old but instead of doing something to help them, he kept on thinking of marrying his girlfriend. He was eager to settle down with his girlfriend. Dodong made up his mind already, there was no way for his parents to object about that anymore. Love is so powerful that will make them do what they want to. Since Dodong ang Teang had a sweet and youthful dreams, but life did not give them what they wanted. They rushed immediately into marriage and were insensible on life’s realities. Marriage is not just about love for each other. After the first son of the young couple was born, Dodong realized what he had done. He was ashamed of his youthful paternity and felt devastated on how life turned out after the marriage.The arrival of six more children on years made the couple’s life more miserable. Teang cried wishing she did not marry at all and wished that it was better not to have kids too. They both learned their lesson the hard way in which they became already prisoners of their impulsive and wrong decision. There was no way of turning back for they have seven hungry mouths to feed. They did not think about the responsibilities of getting married and there was no option left but to face the consequences of what they did. We must always think hundred times if we’re up to decision making. Regrets wil never be the first one to shoot you, but will be the last to drag you. That is why if you dont want regrets like Dodong felt, you think first. This is the most effective way that could save a life from being ruined.
