Even averting nuclear war, we will likely look back and see this moment as a catastrophic moment in US history. Here's why our leaders should've minded our own business in Ukraine:
1. The US, as you know, is about $30trillion in debt. We can continue to print money without triggering apocalyptic inflation due to what is known as the petrodollar. Saudi Arabia has long agreed to accept only dollars for their oil. This has helped to establish the dollar as a "reserve currency," which other nations keep on hand. This keeps a lot of it out of domestic circulation and keeps the value of the dollar high. The actions we have taken toward Russia put that in jeopardy.
2. We just cut one of the most powerful countries on earth out of the western banking system, using our currency as a weapon. Russia can no longer pay its dollar-denominated debts, and will be forced to default. This will create a large opportunity for China to establish itself as an alternative.
3. Saudi Arabia is already considering exchanging oil for the Chinese Yuan. If they do this, it will likely trigger massive inflation in the US as foreign investors begin to dump their holdings. The arrogant use of our sanctions to punish other countries will push fence sitters into the arms of the Chinese.
4. It's none of our fucking business to amplify this conflict by sending weapons and antagonizing Russia. It's bad for business, it's bad for world peace, and it's bad karma. Nobody hit us with sanctions when we invaded Iraq without UN approval. Remember that.
