So, tonight we unveiled the new Yahoo logo, concluding our 30 days of change.

We hadn’t updated our logo in 18 years. Our brand, as represented by the logo, has been valued at as much as ~$10 billion dollars. So, while it was time for a change, it’s not something we could do lightly.

Chromecast - A lot to offer and A lot to desire

Going from start to finish in setting up Chromecast Dongle.

Setup:

1. Powered up easily by inserting it into a free HDMI port of the TV and connecting to a USB power source. My TV's USB port could not power up the dongle so I had to use the USB power adapter that comes with the device.

2. Easy setup; download Chromecast application from Google Play Store. For iPhone, iPad users or PC users, this setup can be done on the browser. The process helps in end-to-end setup of the device and also introduces you to 4 supported apps YouTube, Netflix, Google Play Store content and Google Music. 

  Content:

1. From phone - YouTube content played flawlessly. I was able to pause, forward, rewind easily from phone. So the phone acts as a good remote. Other content like Google Music and Google Play Store shows worked well.

Netflix: If your device (iPhone, iPad, Android) does not have Netflix app installed, you have to install it, to play Netflix content using the dongle. Once you download the app, enter Netflix user/password and look for something you want to play. Google Cast icon will appear on the Netflix application, tapping which will start the streaming.

2. From Computer - You need to install Google cast extension from the Chrome store on to the latest version of Chrome Browser. The Google Cast rectangle will then appear on the browser. The best part of this is that you can broadcast different types of media from your computer to the Chromecast. I tested with Vimeo videos, Engadget Website, some junk website playing cricket videos :-) To sum it up, anything on your chrome browser can be on your TV. This has always been a major pain point for PC users. No more f****** around with HDMI cables (seriously),

Things it can't do:

Direct photo cast from phone to the TV. I don't think it will take too long for Google to build that support.

For music streaming, you need to install Google Music app.

There are no other apps like Amazon Videos, Vudu, etc etc.

No DLNA stuff. You can't share stuff on your PC and have the dongle look for it. 

More Apps are coming:

Google's promotional videos tell us that more apps are coming. So things like Google Photos, News etc will make their way in coming days. Who knows may be games. At $35 price point, its a great toy.
