They say that nighttime in the city is something special. I will not speak highly of the city.

The stars struggle to shine through the thick layer of stormy clouds that wait for their moment of violent glory to arise, to unleash their acidic droplets upon the concrete and glass below.

Amidst the pewter backdrop of a murky sky beams the full moon, its white, eerie glow an otherworldly presence, contouring every object under its watchful eye with a pearlescent sheen.

It's awfully quiet and painfully noisy. The howling winds dare not disturb this nocturnal slumber. The distant sounds of sirens, wailing obnoxiously on the dusty streets, reach my ears like a twisted, artificial lullaby.

Here, only the rich can afford nature's comfort.

The air is still, a stagnant mass of smog and exhaust fumes coughed up by the city, which stings my nostrils and leaves a bitter taste in the back of my parched throat.

The crickets have long been drowned out by the rumbling cars and booming speakers. Their mournful song has been replaced by the mind-numbing stench of half-burnt gasoline.

I will not speak highly of the city.
