Dex Entry #001 - Snivy, The Grass Snake Pokemon
A very calm and intelligent being, this Pokemon synthesizes by bathing its tail in the sunlight. That same tail is known to droop when Snivy becomes ill. They are known to strike adeptly with their vines and are wicked fast after sunbathing. A favourite for its regal bearing at a young stage of evolution.

Map of Paradiso
Not labeled are the various other temples located in Paradiso. It is said they are shrines dedicated to some ancient beasts, meant to appease them. However, the names of those beasts have long since been scratched out and erased from the walls of each temple. The only things that remain are the numerals in each temple marked as I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII.
Also, not pictured is Pasio which is further south of Paradiso.

Grand Titles
The title of 'Grand' is usually added to a Trainer's normal class to set them above the rest. These are the titles used instead of Gym Leader, as Paradiso does not have Gyms so much as Grand Temples to test the bond and strength of Sync Pairs.

Geography of Paradiso
Paradiso is an archipelago nation with one central island that houses most of its cities and towns. It is located just southeast of Kalos and just north of Pasio, the artificial island created by Prince Lear.
The capital city is called Xygen (pronounced 'Key-gehn'), which is home to the seat of the royal family as well as the Origin Temple where Synchronization Ceremonies are held every year as well as other special events and holidays.
There are 8 islands in total that make up Paradiso, not including Pasio.
The largest island, as stated, has the capital city Xygen as well as the towns of Kako, Paron, Venira. Xygen is a very large city, where most commercial businesses are found with tall buildings and access to a huge beach from the shores you can see the Origin Temple. In Kako there is a gorgeous garden kept up by the royal family (Prince Lear, actually) where a memorial to the current firstborn prince's mother can be found in the center surrounded by roses.
The other 7 islands house the towns of Anima, Dezza, Carita, Calosyni, Semno, Pomoni and Teiso. Each of these smaller islands are also home to several ancient ruins which archeologists are still discovering new parts to, the latest being large sealed doors which they cannot seem to open...
The island that houses Carita is an artificial island, however it was created thousands of years ago by the founders through some sort of means, as it is floating above the ocean in place several feet in the air. The only way to reach it is via a taxi/ferry service offered by the locals.
Their main export is Paradisan silk and Pokemon medicinal drinks (such as Potions, Full Heals, Full Restore, etc), having factories for the manufacturing of both.
The overall climate can be deemed as tropical as many flora are representative of this. The weather is always warm or hot, depending on the season and rarely cold.
A visa is required to visit the region.

The Holy Grail War
The Holy Grail War comes to Paradiso every 100 years or so. It is a long standing tradition which would determine the next dynasty that would rule the region for the next century after the reign of the last king is over.
Originally it truly was a bloody battle, close to a civil war, before the rules of engagement were changed due to how much suffering and strife the tradition caused the people of Paradiso. In the last 4 Holy Grail Wars, instead of armies fighting each other, representatives for both warring sides would engage in honorable duels.
The family currently ruling over the region would preside as judge, while the other two families would participate in the war. This made sure no family ruled twice in a row and kept things more or less fair, though some argued that one family was more apt than others.
In the more modern version of the Holy Grail War each side would be allowed to choose 7 champions -- 7 Sync Pairs, coming from each Trainer class. 1 from Saber, Archer, Lancer, Caster, Rider, Assassin and Berserker. This is why in Paradiso Trainers are referred to these classes rather than the traditional ones found outside of the region, as one day they might be called upon to champion the future rulers in a Holy Grail War.
The Holy Grail War has only been off its 100 year interval twice, wherein they happened within 50 years instead, but otherwise kept to a century or so in between each dynasty.
The side with the last remaining Sync Pair standing is the winner and declared the next ruler. Whereas the Sync Pairs who participated and won would be granted wishes by the future current monarch, making the event a very tantalizing opportunity for many people. Though not just anyone could join in on the Holy Grail War and there are some downsides.
Due to the nature of the event, it stands to reason foul play could arrive. More than once have champions called to action have been murdered in their sleep before their appointed duels/matches. For you see, those who participate in the Holy Grail War are exempt from the law until the event is over. It is an odd stipulation of the tradition, but one no one had deigned to remove as it was meant to help ease the mental burden on the champions so they could give it their all. This has led to some tragedies in the past. There are rules to the Holy Grail War, of course, that will be enforced. While traditional laws are out the window, the rules of engagement for the Holy Grail War must always be followed. One of the rules is that only adults may participate; no children can be forced into the role of champion for either side.
Each opposing side if color coded to differentiate between the two factions. One side is deemed as red and the other as black. There are now advantages to either color, they are used to keep each similar Sync Pair separate.
With the end of the Deiorio's current reign about to end, the next Holy Grail War will begin soon....

Legend of the Holy Grail
According to historical theorists, the three founders were in search of the fabled Holy Grail, a mystical item they hoped would grant them their wishes. While it was never clarified if the three founders of Paradiso ever did find it, this was often brought up in historical texts from the time period.
The tale went as such: it was a font of great energy and power that connected to the realm of Arceus, and thus would be able to grant the wish of whoever held it. The power within was called Origin Energy and it collected within the Grail over a period of time. However, it was difficult to find and thus use. But legends have it that after many years of being lost that whoever found it would be able to warp reality itself with their wish, due to how much Origin Energy it would have accumulated.
Occultists say that the founders were mages of some kind. Rumor had it that Lord Deiorio was a powerful psychic, that Lord Argyros dabbled in alchemy and Lord Chiaki was a sorceror. That they created the Holy Grail as a way of gathering ambient energy from the world around them or from the leylines, likely siphoning off of things like the Dragon Force or other things prevalent in the mystical world, though many preferred the idea that the grail's power came from the Hall of Origin itself.
There are many theories, but all of them link the founders to some mystical Holy Grail.
Many researchers on the matter are quite interested with the concept of Origin and Origin Energy and have come from far and wide to study this legend in Paradiso, when allowed through their stringent immigration policies.
The Holy Grail is something that has figured into the royal family for ages, as a symbol of victory for the next dynasty to rule over the region, representing as a right to rule once 'claimed'. A symbol, if you would, that one was supposedly even created to be passed between the families when rulership was passed to another, though the public has never actually seen it. Rumor has it that it is, in reality, a Jirachi that has lived ages within ownership between the three families.

Origins of Paradiso
Paradiso was found more than 3000 years ago by three founders, originating from different regions. They were friends who met each other and were on similar quests to have their wishes granted.
Lord Deiorio wished for a bountiful home, as the land he hailed from his people starved from the lack of food being grown and the scarcity of everything. People died left and right from starvation and other tragedies due to lack of food.
Lord Argyros wished for a place where all the knowledge of the world could be found, where one could study and research to their heart's content. The land he hailed from people lived in utter ignorance, choosing to live in barbaric ways rather than bettering themselves.
Lord Chiaki wished for great might, having escaped from a war torn home that was constantly invaded and attacked by others. Visions of blood and death haunted his mind, of the friends and loved ones that had been lost due to their home being so pitifully weak.
Whatever their reason, they founded Paradiso together -- paradise. They built the region to what it is today, taking turns in making decisions about their new homeland. eventually creating a system where each family would take their turn to rule, never having one family be the de facto ruler. It seemed a fair and just idea.
They made the royal family crest to involve four stars, the largest to represent the current ruler, with the smaller ones to represent the great families of Paradiso.

The Royal Family
The royal family of Paradiso is actually made up of three great noble families: the Deiorio family, the Argyros family and the Chiaki family.
These three families descended from the three founders of Paradiso long, long ago.
For the last 3000 years, the families have taken turns ruling the region, changing who it is every 100 years by use of the Holy Grail War. The current rulers preside over the other two who will battle for the right for their family to succeed the throne, following their ancient traditions.
The current family in charge are the Deiorios, though their reign will soon end within the next few generations. A Holy Grail War will soon be underway to determine the next family to rule after the end of the next Deiorio king's reign. It is currently up for debate whether it shall be Prince Lear or one of his siblings who will be crowned the next king of Paradiso.
The royal family in the latest dynasty currently have former King Christian and Queen Annabella, followed by their son, the current king, King Edmund, his current wife Queen Consort Cordelia and his three children (in chronological order) Lear, Ophelia and Mercutio.

Trainer Classes
All Sync Pairs are divided into specific Trainer classes in Paradiso; the main known ones are as follows:
Saber Class
Trainers who favour Steel, Dragon types.
Archer Class
Trainers who favour Fire, Electric, and Ice types.
Lancer Class
Trainers who favour Ground, Rock and Grass types.
Rider Class
Trainers who favour Flying, Water types.
Caster Class
Trainers who favour Psychic and Fairy types.
Assassin Class
Trainers who favour Dark, Poison and Ghost types.
Berserker Class
Trainers who favour Fighting, Bug and Normal types.
There are other classes such as Ruler, who encompass all Types, however, this class has been used exclusively by members of the Royal Family.
For those who come from outside of Paradiso with several Pokemon to swap out to change their Sync Pair class/status, they are sometimes called the 'Foreigner' class. This is due not to only the person being a visitor/outsider, but because of the nature of their mentality that differs from the citizens of Paradiso.

Being a Pokemon Trainer in Paradiso
Much like in Pasio, Paradiso works on the concept of Sync Pairs. This concept came from a long standing tradition from olden times where a Pokemon and human would create a strong bond in order to overcome obstacles together.
When a child becomes old enough to become a trainer, if they so wish it, they may take part in the Synchronization Ceremony. Much like in other regions when three starter Pokemon are presented to the would-be trainer, three starters are also presented to the new Trainer during the ceremony. However, instead of the Trainer choosing the Pokemon, it is the Pokemon choosing the Trainer.
It is rare, but some citizens are unable to become Trainers until later in life due to being rejected during their first Synchronization Ceremony. Some have to take the route of becoming Trainers in another region or wait another year for the next Synchronization Ceremony as it is an event that happens but once a year during the spring. Most are accepted by their Pokemon partner in their youth and become a Sync Pair, though in some rare cases it can happen in early childhood and is merely formalized at the ceremony. Even rarer are cases where Sync Pairs are made only later in adulthood.
When coming from an outside region, paperwork needs to be submitted before a Trainer and their Pokemon can be recognized as a Sync Pair.
Every spring, the eligible Sync Pair candidates (Trainers) are brought to the capital city, the seat of the royal family and home to the Origin Temple. A large festival is held, as it is a big part of one's life's in Paradiso, a rite of passage, if you will. The festival is often seven days and full of a variety of festivities and events leading to the Synchronization Ceremony, which is overseen by the royal family of Paradiso at the Origin Temple.
Candidates are taken to to a large circle or hoop and are made to stand in front of it and their souls are judged. If the time is right, a covenant will be made and a Pokemon will come to answer the call. One of three will normally answer a fledgling candidate: Piplup, Snivy and Fennekin. One can eventually become a Sync Pair with another Pokemon later in life, but these are the ones who will answer the call to children. There are exceptions and other Pokemon have answered the summons of a new Trainer, but they are rare instances, as the Synchronization Ceremony is very controlled in order to assure the safety of all participants.
In Paradiso it is all about quality over quantity, so the idea of collecting as many Pokemon as possible is a foreign idea to them. And while being able to one day change who you Sync with is an inevitability, people celebrate the long lasting bonds and longevity between a Sync Pair. The idea of devotion is strong in the people of Paradiso, so some even resist the idea that their first partner isn't going to be by their side for the rest of their life. However, those summoned by the calling of the ceremony are often there to help guide and nurture the Trainer until they find their true partner, though many choose to remain with their initial partner.
The battle culture is heavy in Paradiso, however, they may be only done so in designated areas as to not disturb the peace. The rule of eyes meeting between Trainers is enforced, especially if the Trainer has their partner out in the open and they are wearing their designated Trainer arm band. Seeing both of these is considered an invitation to battle and to refuse is not only frowned upon, but considered a punishable offense. If a Trainer of a Sync Pair does not wish to battle, they must either keep their partner in their Pokeball or not wear their Trainer arm band.
Exceptions are there, of course: one does not challenge a Trainer rushing an injured or exhausted Pokemon to the Pokemon Center.
Most Sync Pairs choose to live peaceful lives with their partners, though some become well known battlers or researchers who want to know more about the world of Pokemon.

Some Laws in Paradiso

Marriage
Male individuals are allowed more than one spouse. Female individuals are to be wed to only one spouse and must be divorced before re-marrying. NB individuals will be seen to in a case by case basis.
Divorce can only be done after a mutual separation of one year, minimum. Forced separations (such as one getting stranded in another region, illness, etc.) will not count towards this as it lacks consent of one party.
Pokemon Training/Catching/Owning
While Trainers can have as many Pokemon as possible in Boxes, they are only allowed one partner at a time/the max amount of Pokemon per Trainer is 1. While switching partners is permitted, separate paperwork must be filed for every Pokemon intended for use in Paradiso, with a max of six separate partners per Trainer per 12 calendar months.
It is legal to walk with your partner Pokemon out in the open. Pokeballs are optional.
Some areas are off limits to catch Pokemon. Certain Pokemon are also on the 'no catch list' (no catch meaning it is illegal to catch these Pokemon in the Pardiso region). Breaking this law is punishable with fines of 50000 Pokedollars and minimum five years in jail.
Permits to citizens to become Trainers are given automatically at age 13 and no paperwork is required to do so. Permits for catching and training Pokemon for foreigners must be submitted at least two weeks before entering the Paradiso region. Those who fail to do so cannot participate in the catching and training of Pokemon and must leave their partners behind. The sole exception is for Service Pokemon.
Service Pokemon are required to be identified as such and require paperwork from a trained medical professional before being issued or adopted. It is illegal to battle Service Pokemon.
Foreign Pokemon are welcome, so long as they eventually leave the Paradiso region at the end of a visit, or are naturalized to the region.
List of No Catch Pokemon: 1. Jirachi 2. Arceus
List is subject to changes at a moment's notice.
Felonies
Murder is legal on Paradiso if you are a participant in the Holy Grail War.

The emblem used to represent Paradiso is also the crest of the royal family of Paradiso.
The three smaller stars represent the lesser grails that govern Paradiso, whereas the larger star represents the Greater Grail, the ultimate font of power that once made Paradiso the way it is.
Iconographers interpret the stars as the royal family, with the largest star as the de facto ruler of Paradiso and the smaller stars representing other members of the royal family.
This design is seen notably upon the arm bands of one Prince Lear whenever he ventures outside of Paradiso.
