We moved to the US from India in December 2014, to a whole new world with a different culture. This new land made us laugh, made us cry, surprised us and even made us fear. While we miss home, we know we are not alone and are surrounded by many other fellow "pardesis" far from home. This is for all the Pardesis who have left Swades and made the US their home.

Mullaku Bhajji / Chilly Bhajji / Mirchi Bhajji / Mirchi Pakoda
You know it will burn your mouth with the first bite, but you cant stop eating these. This used to be our common snack in the evening after a long day at the office, while waiting for the bus back. Today, it is at home :)

The Gujju Experiment - We’ve been wanting to make something new and experimental for weeks. While using the ingredients available in our “almost - desi” mexican store, we wanted to make something authentically Indian (we just coined that word). So after careful consideration of a bag of Black Eyes peas. We decided to make Black Eyes Peace “Curry”

Dance & Party
After living 2years in Bangalore, we had gotten accustomed to the “11PM rule” when all things fun come to an end and policemen rein the road. So it is a welcome change, to feel safe (hopefully) and party till we fall. Tonight we are heading to our first big party in the New City, the Bhangra party! Time for wifey to show her recently acquired dance skills and for me to stand awkwardly in a corner and stare at my bottle.

Discovering the oven
This is embarrassing. We moved into our house in US in December 2014 and haven’t used the oven in the kitchen yet. This was completely different from the ovens our mums used back in India, with the stove on top and the oven at the bottom. If you have ever been to the US or seen a Karan Johar movie kitchen, you know what I am talking about. The oven, though new, was the cheap kind our house owner put in the house, with the mechanical knobs. That means, we couldn’t find a single blog/video/manual of the oven online and couldn’t understand use the oven based off the other GE, LG or Samsung instructional videos. We finally decided to try out on a weekend morning.
With phone in one hand (ready to call 911 for a fire emergency), we tossed in couple of potatoes wrapped in silver foil (or some other shiny metal paper), turned the knob and ran to the door. We waited at the door, watching the oven for signs of smoke, for about 10mins. After ensuring the oven won’t explode (tiny steps like Tom in Tom&Jerry), we approached the open and opened the door. We opened up the silver foil to find the partially cooked potato.
Repeated the same cycle as before, running away each time after switching on the oven, till we got the potato cooked. What did we end up making? Pictures coming up soon?

Bourbon biscuits! Hit the jackpot on Friday while we were at the Indian store near our home. They got a shipment of the good ol’ bourbon biscuits. I remember sitting on my mum’s lap and eating those. Wifey likes these dipped in tea, while I like it all original
