The Mint, 1957.
The long-awaited $1.2M Mint Club made its debut Friday [Jul. 12] … Architects for the building were Walter Zick & Harris Sharp … its big story concerns the fabulous nine-story sign that has already commanded national attention. Believed to be the largest sign in the world actually incorporated into the building front, the Mint spectacular was designed by Ed Harris of the Zick and Sharp firm in collaboration with the Young Electric Sign Co. The vertical section requires two elevators for the regular servicing that is required. - Mint Club in Gala Opening on Fremont. Review Journal, 7/14/57
The Mint was built after the city of Las Vegas condemned and cleared various buildings at 104-116 Fremont St (Lots 13-17 of Block 15). The casino later expanded west to 100 Fremont, and north to Ogden. This timeline of The Mint covers some of the original buildings at 100-116 Fremont.
