5) Closing statement (mentioned above)
I wish to compare this artist to Joseph Nelvelton, due to the similarities in certain bodies of work. They both use computers to create their artwork, and both processes may have results they don’t intend for as the inputs are as simple as a virus eating certain colors, or a computer given commands to repeat a certain shape.

4) Choose at least one piece of the artist's work to decode for us.
His collection, Irrational Geometrics.
4a) Explain what it means in as much detail as possible using visual descriptions of the work.
Featuring a variety of colorful lines, he repeats them continuously. The pieces are composed of ellipses repeated multiple times. The collection itself is presented as prints on glass panels, with the colors carefully curated, projections, or videos showing the movement of the ellipses.
4b) Are there metaphors in the work?
The metaphors are found in the execution of the collection. Pascal states that the irrationality is found in the repetition found to complete simple tasks. He compares the action to multiple neurons going off in our brain leading to our own expression. The computer algorithm acts to create various possibilities, which in turn become his working space. He wants to explore the newly created environment in that space that causes different reactions without needing to resemble anything in our own world.
4c) Why is this piece of work important?
This piece is important because of his exploration of chaos through the computer space, which only the computer itself can do. He wishes to experiment with the “unknown or unthought” within that space as he states.
4d) How does it fit in with the artist's overall body of work?
It fits into his overall body of work, because of his usage of algorithms to create the piece. He also uses similar techniques to display his work.

3) Is there a belief or philosophy that drives your artist's work? Perhaps an over-arching theme?
To find meaning within Chaos. To find something rational in the irrational. He feels that artwork is interactive whether it’s meant to be or not, allowing the viewer to reach a conclusion about a certain piece despite the artist's intentions, in order to create a “new mental space” as the computer itself is limitless in terms of what outcomes can be achieved.
3a) Please describe, using specific examples of artwork.
For example, McLove is a piece that takes various images and the program's output to mesh together the video, displaying the outcome of the program, transforming the ellipses on screen, as multiple images flash in between. The resulting effect forces the audience to contrive a message from the piece that initially started off in chaos.

2) What tools and mediums does your artist use?
He uses computers to generate his artwork, Coming from a background in engineering, and computer programming, he began to use programming to use the computer itself as a tool to generate artwork. He then either prints them, projects them or does video playing for him
2a) Give examples of how he uses them.
One of his collections, Rizong, he first creates a program stating that he enters a few commands to run the program, and once the program is done, he then allows it to run freely, stopping the program and taking that outcome and later adding color to the work, as the program works in monochrome.
2b) Describe the artist's process. What is your artist's method for creating the artwork? This could be a technical process or a thought process (conceptual).
After programming his work with set parameters, he then allows his program to then start generating, allowing the results to run free, not controlling the outcome but rather the input. He keeps the rules of his program simple to allow the piece to grow till it fills the entire screen as a blackout.
2c) Has it changed for different bodies of work over the years?
He keeps the same foundation of using programs to assist in art making, but have since developed more complex ways to explore designs and concepts.

What is the artist's Genre?
Generative Art, or artwork that utilizes a self working system to produce the art, for example an algorithm
1a) What are the aspects of the artist's work that qualify it as such?
He uses computer programming to construct his artwork using a series of shapes, images and words to create his piece
1b) Does this artist also fit into other genres? If so, please describe.
He also fits in abstract works. His artwork doesn’t consist of any subject that reflects the real world, but rather represents concepts.
