I wanted to draw my design for Dizzy in a sort of "wildlife gravure" style to really show what I was going for originally.
In the start of her story, the focus is on her being Not Human. She's abandoned by her foster parents, hunted by bounty hunters, shunned by humans because of being a gear - and looking like it. In canon this is done by her tail, wings and eyes, but I wanted to send it a step further. Make her a real beast.
I wanted to incorporate mammalian, avian and reptilian elements, to show just how much of a novel marvel she is. She even has humanoid elements to her! Something that has never existed before, full of contradicting pieces that come together to look somewhat natural.
A contrast between her tough armor of scales, big claws, horns and tail, and the softness of her down-type feathers. Something that's only human through her behaviour and demeanor...

Hekla visiting the lava fields of Fagradalsfjall in Iceland 🌋
The photo is my own, taken last year. Drawing a critter in it was a fun exercise! I liked how Hekla's colours matched the lava and rocks in the photo. I think Typhlosions would do very well in the Icelandic landscape, here's exhibit nr.1 to prove it :D
