13x18 | Bring’ Em Back Alive

This is the most intense acting we’ve seen from Jensen since the finger pricking scene in The Scorpion and the Frog (though obviously the latter was intense in a completely different kind of way). I’ve seen a lot of people likening the way Dean runs his hands through his hair to Dean’s hair-clutching little meltdown in Suck Swan Song. It’s striking how much Jensen has grown as an actor since then, how he’s learnt to embrace ugliness, especially through the MoC arc. This scene isn’t pretty. You can see his scalp, you have no doubt that it stings, that Dean’s tearing out some hairs in the process. There’s a rawness to it all that’s masterful to watch.
